Nylon sheaths

I want to get a nylon sheath with kydex insert for one of my knives.

Now, first option. I can buy one from Semper Paratus. It looks great, has a molded kydex liner and durable nylon exerior. Cost is about $80US.

Second option. Buy a $30US sheath with a folded over peice of kydex from Blackhawk industries.

My questian is, what is the real difference a molded kydex liner provides? Other than the obvious such as it minimizes blade movement.

What knife are you thinking about a sheath for?

I am thinking of one for one for my eu-17 magnum. The leatherman sheath is incredible but I do a fair amount of activities under water so I want something a little more water resistent.

I have one of Dan's sheaths for my SFNO and it has exceeded all expectations in a nylon sheath to be honest. It wears very comfortably, has a lot of ride height adjustment and basically still looks like new after many SAR training days in lava beds of Southern Washington. The kydex is custom fit by Okuden (another Busse preferred sheath guy) which is worth a bunch of extra cash alone. I talked to Brian (Okuden) at a knife show last week and his kydex is first rate. The liner provides just enough passive retention so you can hold the sheath upside down and the knife will not fall out (though my SFNO is significantly smaller/lighter than your Magnum EU17).

Dan fits that sheath with great care. Little details like the thumbbreak being positioned perfectly and stuff like that puts it over the top. I have met with Dan a couple times discussing gear and eventually bought and entire modular LBV from him. Very nice work. I don't think I hide my bias very well. After talking to Dan and hanging out with him I consider him a friend.

For a knife I really like and plan on carrying often I would pay that difference in a heart beat. Check out these pics...

Thanks for the info. and the pics. I was wondering how large the pouch is on your sheath and if he is willing to make larger ones. How long did you have to wait for him to make the sheath? Thanks for the pics, I will email him ith some other questians.
