Nylon Washers?

While cleaning my old style "P" large sebenza today for the first time, I noticed that the washers were black nylon and not the bronze usually found even on some of my other older sebenzas.

Does anyone know when the switch was made to bronze?
Can I use the CRK flourinated grease on them?

Thanks for any info.

I thought this was a good question!

It is a good question. I just don't know the answer. I've seen one numbered P example that had white nylon washers. I couldn't tell you when the switch was made. Chris or Anne will probably have to do that.

I don't think the CRK fluorinated grease will harm the nylon washers.

I also have one of the P. Sebenzas.I thought the nylatron washers were a little smoother than the bronze.I would also like to know when and why the switch was made

Sorry - we are alive here - just slow at getting to things!!

We changed from nylon to phosphor bronze washers at least four years ago. I don't have an exact date, sorry. The tolerances of the phosphor bronze washers is more consistent, especially from one side of the washer to the other. We are also able to polish them, get them exactly the thickness we need, if necessary. At that time, we also changed to one larger and one smaller washer rather than two of the same size. This increases the lateral stability of the blade.

It is fine to use the fluorinated grease on the nylon washers - at some stage, you might like to send the knife in for it's 100,000 service - we can change out the washers if you like!
