Just wondering if anyone has tried it. I have some O-1 that I am not using as is, and some extra 15n20 so looking for a way to use up the O-1.
Thanks,
Darcy:)

I know O1 and L6 make a killer damsacus if you can get it to weld right. Kevin Cashin uses it frequently. Have not tried O1/15n combo. I would be worried about the difference in hardening reactions. I would be interested in seeing if it works. I have a bunch of o1 and 15n too. You should give it a try esp if you have a way to dry weld.

1095 and 15N20 will give you better results.

Why do you say it will give better results? Will the O-1 and 15n20 not weld properly or will there be trouble with heat treating?
I have been using 1084 and 15n20 with good results already. I had read in an old knives illustrated magazine where a blade smith used that combo........ just wondered if anyone here had tried it. I may give it a go and see what happens.......will report back here if I do.
Thanks,
Darcy

I think it will work just fine. 15n20 is an oil hardening steel as is O1. The hardening temps are very close if not the same. There should be no issues of them not welding together using typical forge welding techniques.

Try an O1/15N20 san mai first. If it doesn't survive the quench, don't waste time with the Damascus. If it works, keep going!

Thanks guys, will give it a shot and report back.........may be a while though. I have quite a few irons in the fire right now.;)
