Here is my newest....

Specs:
12" OAL
7" Flat ground 0-1 Toolsteel Blade
Full Tang 3/16" stock
SS/Copper Mosaic Pins
Nickel Silver Thong Hole
Desert Ironwood Scales

This knife is a workhorse. It began as a test piece. HT and Temper have resulted in a blade that can chop a 2x4 and then still have hair with ease. The tang is heavly skeletonized, putting the balance point about an inch forward of the plunge line. Handle is flared in the tang to assist with chopping.

It is quick in the hand and should serve well as a camp knife in the near future!

Thanks everyone! This one was fun to make and I foresee a real chopper with a competition sized blade in the near future!

oh yeah!! I just cust up a log of that stuff this weekend. Great wood!!!

Yup I had been sitting on this stuff for a while....it was really absurdly nice stuff. From time to time i get high end scales from www.arizonaironwood.com..... You tend to pay a bit, but the pics of the scales on their site are literally scans and they come looking like that....some really really nice stuff. I left this one a bit rougher than i normally would to aid in grip. I originally had it buffed to mirror and it looked great, but the more matte finish holds better in the hand....

What I got was a log that I can get about 10 sets out of. Kind of fun seeing the pattern and being surprised......Darn hard stuff!!!

Cool! How much did that log cost you?

The stuff is awful hard and tends to bog up files and belts, but I usually use really rough grit belts and then hand sand...the stuff hand sands very well and buffs fantastic. I swear if i were patient, I could buff to mirror from about 400 grit....

it was about 100 bucks but knocks down the cost per scale if I cut it. Be sure one side is flat and hope that it will go through the tablesaw. If not plaining and joining is in order first :)
