Well, I went from Christmas orders to 'puter problems to holidays to a wrecked back. Just now starting to catch up again.

This one was an order for an old friend from his son-in-law for Christmas.

Hollow ground O-1, brass guard, Walnut & antler. Ht'ed & tempered [by me] to about 58-59rc. Butcap is my first attempt at relief carving on antler, came out acceptable [in my opinion]. 9" oal, 4 1/2" & 4 1/2"

Sheath is also by me.

Comments welcome & thanks for lookin'!

I always admire the way good knife makers (unlike myself) make antler do what they want it to do, like match up with the spacer material so that they don't have to carve it down to fit exposing the white inner portions. Is it sambar or domestic antler? Could you expand a little on how you did the pommel carving, the design, tools, methods, just all your secrets please. ;-)

The sheath compliments the knife well and I like the two-tone staining job you did. Your son-in law is getting a real nice knife.

Thank you all for the compliments and encouragment.

Paul, I rough sketched about what I thought I wanted and removed what I did'nt want. Most work was done with various carbide bits in a Dremel, needle files, and Exacto knife. When I finished, I wiped the carving with leather dye to enhance the detail. I'm sure not an expert carver but I hope this helps. Just dig in & see what works for you.

The antler is whitetail.

Beautifull knife with crisp grind lines. I like the way the plunge line flows into the guard.
