Hey guys, :D
Just wondering what some of you have used for corrosion protection on O-1. So far I've been using WD-40 or Flitz paste however I wonder if there's something better to do. My buddy skinnned a good sized bull moose this passed saturday night with that "user" I have posted in the the knifemakers gallery. Unfortunatley he said it has what looks like some small water stains on the blade. The edge did it's job though. I'm going to pick it up tonight to check it out. Just looking for ideas.

When you get it just take WD 40 and 0000 steel whool to knock off any blood that may be dried on it. I use spray P.A.M. used for cooking.
THe trick is not having the knife be damp. Dry and oil.........

There is a process that Ricky Fowler uses to protect the blade but that requires bead blasting before hand.

It's been said before, good carbon steel blades don't corrode, they just get a nice pattina :D it's a good thing. Just whipe the blade off after use and it will get darker over time. We use 01 and W1 carbon steel kitchen knives that I made 20 years ago that have never rusted but have turned dark over the years, we just rinse and whipe dry after we use them, no problem at all. My main hunting knife of 15 years is also 01, good stuff.

Carbon steel only corrodes if you leave it wet for too long. Otherwise it develops a natural protection (aka patina). *Rust* is bad. *Stains* are good.
