Prayers are going up from all of us for Pappy, Bill, Uncle Frank, Spectre's dad, Yvsa's daughters and granddaughter, Munk's wife and many others. Reading the posts this morning makes me want to do more. I heard this week that the nation's blood supply is critically low, due to the holidays, inclement weather and sickness that happens in the winter. This is true in my area, and I checked the Red Cross website at Red Cross and found it true across the country. Those of us who are able should donate this week. It won't help our Cantina loved ones directly but will help others immediately. The good Karma can't hurt our friends either. Just a thought. Prayers and smoke going up from NC for all of my friends.

I give on a reg'lar basis and feel great when I get my gallon pins.
My grandmother has been giving since she was a WREN in WWII. Lots of pins and articles for her service.

Dunno Roger,

Those gallon pins always make me a bit uneasy. One unit at a time, fine...but the idea of a gallon having been taken gives me a 'hollow' feeling. It's an empty honor.I apologise to my bone marrow.

Ever endure/undergo Cytapheresis? Weird. They pull out a unit, spin it in a centrifuge for the white cells, then add a jigger of anti-coagulant, and put it back in the other arm. Then they take five more units out, doing the same thing. Took a few hours, immobilized in a chair. I kept on asking why they couldn't take the blood from my legs, and leave my arms free to read. (note: blood techs CAN get annoyed.) Don't remember the use. Might be luekemia or burn victim.

Long ago and far away, the company I worked for had "Walking Blood Bank." Employees would sign up, and if someone who worked for the company needed blood, the personnel department would call down the list until they had enough donors to meet the needs. Pretty neat idea.

(I DO go on.):)

Won't take mine either, I take too many (Legal) drugs to suit 'em.:(

Unfortunatly, they won't take mine either. Spent too many years in foreign countries, and was exposed to too many things they don't want to take chances on.

Well, I can't fight, can't sing, can't do surgery, can't act, can't be funny like Bruise, can't dance. But I can bleed.;) You guys keep doing what you can, and I'll keep doing what I can.:D

Thanks!

Has it been a year already? Sheesh. I gave last year, I'll give again this year. It's a good cause and it hurts less than a tattoo;)

I donate every 8 weeks. I had to miss my last appt due to the flu, but am going in at 13:15 today (it's after MN as I write this) and get back on track. I am priviledged in that I not only am able to donate blood, I also administer it to patients in need.
For those on the fence, the pain is absolutely minimal, benefit is unmatched. For the sacrifice of a little time and very, very minor discomfort, you will give life - literally - to someone who needs it.
