I was setting here last night and dozed off. When I woke up I was still half asleep and there was a popup on my screen. Without paying any attention I just closed it out and behind it there was several WinPatrol popup's wanting to know whether it was alright for them to access the computer. I said yes to several of them but because I was tired and didn't want to fool with it I just closed the rest of them out.
Now my computer is slower than molasses in January, actually worse than my sis in law's on 28,000 Kps!'
I guess I'm gonna hav to call Geeks R Us to get it fixed as I've done everything I know to do, but will try to read for any suggestions y'all might have.
I have now learned never to mess with it while I'm half asleep! :grumpy:

I managed to post a while ago so I'm hoping this one goes through as well.

On another thread Bill said he thought I was the owner of the one and only Bura Folder.
Don't know about owning it but it is in my possesion for the moment.;)
One of these days when I get the computer fixed and have a little extra time I'll take some pix of it as well as Beerbelly, a really fat and silver mounted khukuri I also have in my possesion and get someone to post 'em. :D ;)

You might want to try something like Ad-aware. Here is a link to it. It is great for getting spyware and tracking crap off your macine. My father's machine got really slow and after removing about 35 different tracking programs off with ad-aware it really helped. I learned about it from my techno geek computer freak brother. Good luck. It is a free download and so far I have been very happy with it.

The Bura folder link I can help out with. But your on your own with that 'ole beer belly khukuri ;) :D

Thanks BTC!;)

And thanks to you as well Mark, but I have AdAware as well as CWShredder, Spybot, HiJackThis, and a couple of other defense programs. I'm thinking it's internal and something to do with windoze but I don't know for sure. Thing is when I get one of the geeks out here he will have it fixed in 15 minutes and still gets $75.00!!!! That's what they get for an hour minimum. :grumpy:
But it will be worth it. Trying to do anything with it the way it is now is maddening!

Yvsa, sorry bout your computer problems. My system got bugged again the other night so bad I finally had to just reinstall windwos from scratch.

If you need pics posted, email them to me and I'll do it for you. :)

Though I'm not totally sure...

I think Ad-aware and such only delete stuff when you actually run the program. When you get new spyware on your machine, you start ad-aware, check for updates and then scan your drive. Same for the virus checkie thingies unless you have it scheduled to do a scan.

Also...

If you set Zonealarm to give you an alert whenever a program wants to access the internet you can see what programs are trying to get out that you don't know about.

Bruise is correct that the programs only work when you actually run them, don't run real time(With some small exceptions). If you want, shoot me an email before you call the guy(if you can wait till this weekend), and I may be able to come by, depending on where you're located. Happy to get an excuse to put some more miles on my bike. :)

Ad-aware is great, but you really need to purchase the full version to get the full benefit. It also is mainly for spyware. You also should be running some sort of antivirus such a Norton or Macafee.

I find it best to run both adaware and spybot. Like most anti-virus software the defenitions vary among programs.
I know I have said it before but i'll say it again. Get firefox or opera. If you turn on the popup blocker they will never bother you again. I havent had a popup in over a month. and even then it was only because something got around the google toolbar popup blocker in IE when I had to use it for the rare page that wont load in opera.

Sorry Yvsa, I guess I should have asked if you had them first. Hope you get it taken care of quickly and without to much pain.

Danny glad that you got rid of that crap. I got tired of having so much of it and have sinced switched my broswer to Mozilla Firefox and haven't had any problem with spyware or getting pop ups.
