This Condamned computer of our daughters is gonna drive me out of my friggin MIND!!!!
When I first got here it was slower than mole-ass'es on the day when Hell froze over and that's putting it mildly.:grumpy:
Penny had NO Firewall, NO Antivirus, No Protection at all so y'all can imagine. Actually it wasn't as bad as I figured it would be though considering.
I downloaded AdAware, Spyware Blaster, Search & Destroy, CW Shredder, AVG antivirus,Zone Alarms and a couple of new ones, one that I found just yesterday called, "JustZIPit" It's a free Zip program that works wonderfully. Unzipped one of the Spyware programs I downloaded without any trouble or prompting, just did it and did it very well!!!! I sent the URL to myself so I can download it on my computer when we get home.
The other download is one I found just a couple of weeks or so ago and is one that maybe a lot of you might like as well. It is called "Crap Cleaner" and it does just that, cleans a lot of the crap accumulated on your computer over the years. Gets rid of DLL's, old obsolete files, old incomplete uninstalls, all sorts of sh*t!!!! There are two sides to it, one deals with the files, temporary internet files, cookies and other crap and the other side deals with issues in your registry. And best of all the little Free Program does a backup so you can put it back if something messes up.
The websites can be found by Googling the names. ;-)
I used it on my own computer and freed up some 200 MB's Plus!!!! :D I forget what it was on Pennys but by installing these programs and running them the computer went from 18% performance to 56% performance, needless to say it's quite a bit faster now than it was!!!! :D
Then today I came in and logged onto the HI Forum and started trying to type a note to Steely Gunz when I upped his rep and the damned computer wouldn't type certain letters such as,
d, e, r, and a couple of others in lower case. Every time I would hit the key on one of them it would redirect me either to My Computer, Find Files, or some such sh*t.
Once it told me it was the WYSIWYG editor!!!! What the F&*%?!?!?!? I went to Google to try and find out what the hell a WYSIWYG editor was and that's all I was able to type. At least Google told me what it was as much good as that did me.
Then after going to Winderz 98 Help with no Condamned success I happened to remember that the only thing I had done different from yesterday was unlocked the Condamned numbers lock.
So I locked the Sumbitch Back!!!!
Nothing!!!! Not A ConDamned Thing!!!! Same old Sh*t!!!! :grumpy:
Then I wnt back to Google to see if I could maybe figure out something about Winderz 98 as I know nothing about this OS.
When I started typing I thought, "Well, I'll try the Condamned thing One More Condamned Time.
The SumBitch Started Frikkin Workin Right Again!!!! I'm all for that because now I don't have to take the damned towere down to a Geek Store to get it fixed, but what Pisses Me OFF is that I Don't Know What Fixed IT!!!!
I'm telling y'all this ConDamned compooter is gonna drive me outta what's left of my friggin MIND!!!! :p :D

I'm just pleased that I had enough knowledge to get it cleaned up and protected. I owe that mostly to the information I've garnered here on BFC. Thanks Gang!!!! <VBG> :-)

One time one of my co-workers was having similar problems. Everytime she typed the letter e a new Explorer window would open up. I suggested she just work around the words with an "e" in them and she just about bit my head off. :)

It turns out her "windows" key was sticking. I got the goop out of it and then everything worked fine.

You may have a sticking "control," "alt," or "windows" key. You could try cleaning the keyboard.

Dayum , Yvsa. You in Arizona already!

I was going to put a sign up to say HI YVSA/BARB, along mile marker 194 as you whizzed by. :)

If the problem is a keyboard as Howard suggests, buy a new keyboard. Most are pretty inexspensive - I've had to replace 3 of my own in the last two years. It isn't good to eat and drink when operating your computer :D

sounds like a riot for sure.....weren't computers supposed to make life easier?!?

Thanks Guys.
I had already turned the keyboard upside down and beat the livin sh*t outta it, Twice even. That wasn't the problem.
Doing so did somewhat help the sticky space bar though, now I'm thinkin WD-40.;)
I'm thinkin it may have to do with the dayumed numbers lock and that's easy to find out but I'm just not inclined to experiment while it's still working.:D
Things just piss me off when they fix themselves and I don't know for sure what happened in case it does it again.

Still workin so I'm gonna count my blessings and forget it.
At least it's many times better now!!!! :D

Y'all check out that Crap Cleaner program.I don't think it's for everyone and I'd be careful with using it but if an old fart like me can do it anyone can.
Just don't hold me personaly responsible if you lose something you wanted to keep. So far so good with me but I'm always leary of new programs. I completely read the forum discussions about it before I decided to try it. I have no ties with the company or individual who created it.:)

My friend, this is a new age. Sometimes the old ways don't work. In particular taking the keyboard over your knee for a good walloping may not convince it to "shape up and fly straight."

;)

Just for an experiment hold down the window key and type "e, d, f, r." Does any of that look familiar? Simply holding down the window key may cause it to stick in the down position and it will take a greater or lesser (random) time for it to come back up. When it comes back everything will be better, until the windows key sticks in the down position again. The fact that you reported problems with the space bar increases the odds that someone spilled pop or taco sauce in the keyboard sometime in the past.

next time re-install the OS and start from scratch. The only trick to fixing a puter is knowing if its a hardware or software issue. If you re-install the OS and you still have problems then its most likely a hardware issue. I know how you feel when they just wont budge, and you have to spend hours and sometimes days fiddlin around with em. The puter I'm typing from still gives me a head ache, a $1500 head ache.

Welcome back to AZ, Yvsa!
Wado Dawi. Are you still using your old Hotmail address? I sent you another email today.
The big question is --- Are you going to be able too meet up with the rest of us at Gin's the 30th?
We sure would like to see you again!!!! :D

Howard I'll try that but all the beatings were done prior to the damned thing fixing itself.

Computers are evil.

They have no reflection in a mirror.

They all have devil tails.

One of our possums once peed on my DSL modem. I felt like joining in.
(The only thing computers fear is liquids and maybe a stake through the CPU)

EVIL!

With some computers it is both!
Freaking Compaq didn't include a separate discset of Winders ME!
