O.T. Curious. Anyone else change the format and colors, fonts, etc on their computer?

Nasty remarked when he was down here that the forum came up differently on my computer than it does his.
The standard black on white screen is glaringly bright and hurts my eyes after just a short time and is the reason I changed the format on my computer.

I went into the desktop properties by right clicking on the desktop, clicked appearance and then "advanced" and changed the colors that my computer displays web pages in along with several other options such as the colors on the active and inactive toolbars, menu and etc.
My screen is a nice light blue with dark blue print in the Times New Roman Font in bladeforums and without the boxes the bfc format comes in..
Some of the items can be changed by going into"tools" and clicking Internet Options and then clicking colors and unchecking the Use Windows Colors box. Then opening the "Font" button and changing to the font of your choice.

It can take a little while to get everything just as you like it but for me the change is an excellent way to reduce eye fatigue and the headaches that it causes.:D

I'm just curious if anyone else besides me have changed the appearance their computer displays web pages, and other formats in, or were/are even aware that it could be done?

Yup, I do that. I am a translator and spent up to 10h a day in front of the computer. I have no white on my screen. I changed it to a light brown-gray to give my eyes a little rest.

Gah! Times New Roman? Yvsa, it's the font of the Antichrist. Try Arial instead. :D

Josh, Arial is alright but I can see Times New Roman better. I wish there was a way to make it bold print. :grumpy:

While I was typing this I tried the Arial and can still see the TNR better. I also tried Arial Black and that's too bold.:(

Tbar, do you use a black print or something else? Sure is a lot easier on the eyes! A light brown gray may be better than the light blue I have.:)

Edit:
Changed it over to a brown/gray with black font and a medium blue to show the visited places. Much better. Thanks Tbar!:D

Geeze, Yvsa, you're starting to sound like Goldilocks and the three bears. This font is too light. This font is too dark. This font is juuuuuuuuuust right. :D :D

Whatever works best for you, Yvsa :) I'm just teasing a bit. I know a lot of folks who like TNR. I'm just not one of them.

Haven't found the one that's "Just Right" yet Josh.:p ;)
But Tbar's tip helped a great deal. I like the brown gray much better than the blue.:)

Yvsa - everybody in my department who works at a computer does this. Personally I have always favoured plain black text in Arial or Garamond over a light grey background which is how I usually do web pages with a lot of text.

But naturally, my webpage clients ALWAYS insist on "cool" and demand some monstrosity with black, starry background and luminous yellow text that make the eyes bleed if you stare at it for too long...

Yuh nSuh?

Thanks.

Did you know there is an adjustment in there that can make the definition of the letters more "crisp?" Something about standard setting fades into background and this option defines it more sharply?

Kind of neat. I'll see how it affects my eyes. Right now, it's like I cleaned my glasses.

More proof that Times New Roman is the font of the Antichrist; it was developed for legibility by the New York Times.

20-30 years ago there was a failed movement
to print black on very light pastel green paper
for legibility

a 'proven' combo

?

Onscreen, I just try to stick to pale off-whites in blues or greens
to keep eye strain minimized
Unless working with images,
then all greys

works for me

I like the Bladeforums vbulliten 3 style option
with the greys & blues
