This is a website that my nephew Robert sent to me before the accident and I just got around to downloading the free screen saver to my files.
I had much rather be awakened by powwow music than I had the creepy space or underwater sounds when I happen to doze at the computer.;)

There's also a place where you can download music to listen too while surfing the net, but I haven't done that..... yet.;)

http://www.gatheringofnations.com/

And if you don't wanna run through the whole site looking for the screensavers you can go here.

Just thought some of y'all might like something different for a change.:D

Thanks!!:)

I'm too busy packing for a photo trip to really check it out, but I definitely will!

I would like something new to play when I start up as well. I've had the same sound for wayyy to long.

YVSA,

After seeing your NDN flutes I haven't been able to stop thinking about them. While we were talking you said there was a place you could go for a flute kit. You have made me curious :) Where exactly can I go? If you told me I forgot. Thanks.

As for anyone else,
If you debate the beauty of a superglue finish you shoud see YVSA's flutes, they are absolutely gorgous!

Actually the superglue might help out with the resonance in the wood helping smooth the tones... interesting thought.
I will run that one by my brother who is a musician. He could ask a Violist (sp) he knows. Sorry for rambleing. Just a few thoughts. :)

Try going to........

They have the Flute kits in two configurations. I would recommend the one with the holes already in it unless you're pretty handy with your hands and have some wood working tools.
If you opt for the one with no holes then you absolutely have to have a 1/4" very sharp wood chisel to make the fipple hole.
The note holes can be put in with a dremel, but a regular drill motor works best since the 1/4" and larger holes are beyond the range of the 1/8th inch dremel collet.
A friend of ours got one with no holes and almost killed it. She didn't know she had to back up the wood with another piece of soft wood when cutting the fipple hole and chipped it out badly. It can be saved, but it will be a hassle and won't ever look as good as it would and could have.

Holes larger than 1/4" will cause the note to deepen in sound, but you're limited as to just how large you can make them.
A standard Flute with 1/4" holes will sound and play just fine. The Flute I have made by Woody Haney has only the 1/4" holes sounds most like a true ndn Flute.

The kits come in halves with a small bird or fetish to make the air go from one chamber to blow across the fipple hole making the sound.
(If you ever use a mic with a Flute the mic goes at the fipple hole, not at the end of the Flute.:) I had a Powwow MC do that to mine one day when I played at a Gourd Dance.:D )
All you have to do with the kit that has the holes is to glue it neatly together with a good wood glue, then sand all the componets very smooth and then put on the finish of your choice.
I haven't heard one of the kits made and played, but they should make a nice little ndn sounding Flute.

Hmmmm, figured they would have improved their website by now, but they do have hundreds if not thousands of items in stock.
I would just give them a call to see what the cost is and if you have a credir card you can order over the phone.
We generally get a free catalog every year because of all we order.;)

YVSA,

Crazy Crow isnt working through your link, nor through Yahoo or MSN.

I think they may be having server problems

I will try them later, but I think I might need to diversify my woodchuck skills with a ndn flute. ;)

Dave, I also had problems loading the page. Try refreshing it a few times and see what happens. Hope it helps,

Heber Ellsworth

Way to go Dave!!!!
Now that you will be getting aquainted with the Cherokee Trade & Supply Store there's no telling what will happen next.:)
Crazy Crow Trading Post sells a lot of high quality goods and they also sell a lot of POS.
CCTP has a lot of really high quality knife blades if you know what you're getting, along with German Silver and Brass fittings as well as some wood for handles IIRC!!!!:D
The laminated blades, can't recall where they're from at the moment, are among the best in the world and very reasonable.
The other side of the coin is the Pakistani blades and knives they sell.
They're good enough for regalia, but dayumed sure ain't for working.
And their 'Hawks are of very good quality and reasonable as well and look as well as some I've seen that costs a helluva lot more!!!!
I had one of their forged 'Hawk's and sent it to my little Bro in NV with some other goodies quite a while back.
I have one of their "Turtle 'Hawk's" made from iron that is as good as was made at one time in the far past.:)
There glass beads are among the finest in the world with an excellent assortment of styles and sizes.
Us Indins would be hard pressed for certain supplies if it wasn't for CCTP!!!!
I just wish they sold more real claws, but I understand why they don't.
It's getting more and more difficult to keep up on the current laws about animal parts, includeing hide and furs.

Moscow Hide & Fur at http://www.hideandfur.com has excellent products with very good descriptions and sometimes one can find bear claws and the like from them.
We got some Turtle Claws from them once.:)

Grey Owl up in New York City used to carry a lot of claws as well, but you really have to watch them on their sizes because they will ship you smaller than you ordered and then ask why they're not acceptable, because I paid more for them, what's so hard to understand about that?:)
I now wonder if they might have been involved in some of the damage as they were located in Manhatten IIRC.

I have a bear claw necklace that's made from old Venetian Glass Chevron Beads, some Blue Tiger Eye as well as some very, very old African Sand Cast Beads and 13 bear claws, some of them very large compared to what most are, that's well worth as much or more than $1000.00 that I don't have near that much in.
Some of the Old Venetian Chevron Glass Beads are worth over $100.00 a piece!!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn't have ever been able to have something like that if it wasn't for us ndns still practiceing barter.;):D

Yvsa, by saying you traded around, are you skirting the issue of having been a "feather merchant"?:D  ;)
