I finally made it to today and the appointment I've had for several weeks now for a Discogram on my lumbar spine. That's the good news.

The bad news is that my S-1 to L-5 lumbar joint is blown all to hell, is flatter than a pancake, and is probably going to take a surgery to fix with any longterm results.:thumbdn: :(

The good news is that this joint is one of the most successful operated on and the risk of paralysis is lower than any other part of the spine. :)

The bad news is that I'm right at the top weight that my neurosurgeon will do surgery one and I may have to lose 20 pounds or so before he will do the surgery but then I may not because he knows if I can move without hurting that I will move.
And now that fall and cooler weather is just around the corner we can get out to the zoo with the rollator again as well as to the health club.

Anyway I have to wait until my next appointment which is the 6th of September to see my neurosurgeon. Further updates after I see him.;)
At least by dayum I know what's wrong now!!!!

Yvsa, you deserve some stable news, friend. Let us know if there is anything we can do. Smoke up.

Jake

See, now that just goes to show you.

I coulda sworn it was the stilletto heels.

Hang in, Friend.

Good luck on this one Yvsa. ;)

You could try my grandfather's solution for his pain... I think he called it scotch. :D

Good microbrew, pear cider, perhaps some quality bourbon - these seem to do the job for my knee. While the side effects can be considerable, they seem to work more effectively than my prescribed medication and when you get right down to it, those side effects aren't entirely unpleasant.

Not the right answer for everyone. Probably not for me, either, but it'll do for now.

You already know that I wish nothing but the best for you but I'll repeat it for the sake of completeness. :)

Best of luck to you.

I know what back pain is. I hope you have a successful intervention, whatever that may be.

GOod luck Yvsa, seems liek the news is shaded towards the good, though it is mixed there.

And yeah, we're getting to the weathe ragain where you can get out without dying around here. Road my bike before work yesterday for 40 minutes or so, was nice.

Course, also walked 4-5 miles round trip to dollar store after work without bringing something to drink. That was a bit too warm. :)

hi yvsa, best of luck with that joint. i'd bet we could get one of the kami's to slop a bunch of laha into the interstice really cheap - have you up in no time! barring that, mebbe a dab of superglue?

Prayers of course

We can get a tug-war delegation together
at your place
on short notice
for a back-stretching party

just give the word

:D

Yvsa, the next time I see you I expect your nickname to be "speedy." (-:

Sounds like you got a good doc there, and I'm hoping that he will be able to fix the problem. Glad you finally got feedback on what's been giving you such misery and can get a handle on it.

Anything we can do to help please let us know.

Regards,

Norm

After a long hard struggle I have finally assembled a team of Dr's. that I have complete confidence in!!!!
Our personal care physician is another skin, Osage, and has been to our Sweatlodge.:D
My Rheumatologist is one of the best if not *the* best rheumatoid arthritis Dr's. in town.:D
My pain mgmt. Dr. *is* the absolute best pain management Dr. anywhere and I'm damned lucky to have him!!!!
And my neurosurgeon is *the* neurosurgeon that folks working in Workers Comp want to be their Dr. if they have need of such a Dr.!!!!:D
We also have a gastroenterologist that all the nurses agree is the best in Tulsa.
You might say we're covered from one end to the other. :p ;) :D

I bitch and moan about Dr's. in general and the incompetent butchers I've had in the past and to have a team of Dr's. that I'm willing to trust Barbie's and my life to without question is priceless.

It sure seems strange that it took a road trip to finally bring the back problem to focus. Up until then we had been moving around pretty good as well as regularly although the heat did keep us in a great many days.

There are lots of old adages that are true and I can damned sure vouch for the one that says, "If you don't use it you will lose it!!!!"
Helluvit is that it came on so slowly that it was a viscious cycle. The more I hurt the less I moved, the less I moved the more it hurts.:grumpy:

I also know long term back pain, but so far have avoided surgery like the plague. My old man was a chiropractor and advised me to learn to live with it, as "one back surgery tends to engender another" (his words). Hope it works for you.

Good luck... knowing what the problem is seems to be 3/4s of the fight! I'll continue prayers :)

Alan
