Jessica is probably in the recovery room as I write this. I thank each and every one of you who offered Smoke and those who I know would have and did even if they weren't aware of my earlier post.
The Smoke is much appreciated and Jessica has survived to live another day, hopefully.

They had to completely close off Jessica's anus as there is *No Chance* whatever of her ever being reconnected short of a miracle.
The surgeon found *75%* of Jessica's small intestine inflamed and in very poor shape.
Jessica had a fistula that the Drs originally thought was an abscess. It was caused by a pinhole in the small intestine that leaked toxic bowel matter and caused the infection.
Jessica is no longer allowed to eat anything colored red because when she hemorrhages now she will hemorrhage into the colostomy bag and everyone has to be able to know that the presence of red matter is blood and not a red colored food.
Life has once again changed for the worse for my little granddaughter in more ways than one.:(

I asked Stella just how much of the bowel a person could lose and still survive. Stella got very quiet for a full minute and then sighed and told me, "Daddy, I don't know, I didn't ask that question."
Stella did tell me that according to the Dr Jessica could live to be 100 with no further complications or she could walk West in 6 months because of complications.
Apparently it isn't the Crohn's that kills you but the complications from having Crohn's.

Thank you one and all for your Smoke and Prayers and your concern.
I'll keep y'all updated as I know the situation with Jessica.
She is going to be devastated when she wakes up and finds that bag still attached.:(

Smoke and prayers, Yvsa:( Heartbreaking, heartbreaking. Everything happens for a reason, but it doesn't make it any easier. This shouldn't happen to a kid.

What can I say, other that this shouldn't be happening to a child? My words aren't going to fix anything. The smoke may. I'll keep it up. I wish that I could do more.

Damn, hope sometimes cheats all of us. :( :( :(

Smoke lingering in the Carolina's tonight.

Yvsa, every single day they discover new ways to heal. Chin up.
They may just be able to grow her a new one very soon.
They are already into trials for genetic dentistry, which excites me as I have bad teeth.
Basically, if you have a bad tooth, they pull it out and pop in a "seed".
Then a few weeks later you have a new tooth grow in, just like when you were a kid.

Gotta make a backyard run for more Cedar... hope I have some left! Smoke up I hope in a few...

My friend , I'm very sorry to see things have gone from bad to worse for your little grand-daughter. :grumpy:

It makes me appreciate just how mild my Chron's is compared to hers. As I sit through the 3 hours of infusion every other month for the rest of my life I'll try to keep her in my thoughts.

I am with Danny; hang in there. Jessica is very young and biotech is advancing rapidly. They may be able to undo the damage within a few years, we never can tell. The important thing is to get her stable so she is around and in the right state of mind when the technology finally catches up.

Smoke and thoughts for Jessica tonight. Poor thing.

No, there's no fairness in the world- so let's do what we can.

Yvsa, would sending her get well cards cheer her up at all? We could do that.

No it's not much but something more tangible to her.

I recall that in my youth leukemia was the most fatal cancer - no therapy available. It now has one of the highest cure rates. One can hope.
