I picked up this Barong on Ebay. It was in pieces, unloved and unappreciated. :( The handle was cracked, the ferrule was on backwards, but the blade looked ok, though it was really rusty. Superglue for the cracked handle, some tru-oil, epoxy and elbow grease, and she's ready to go back to work. Nice hardened edge, thin and wicked. Overall length 22 1/2", and the blade rings like a chime. Thanks for looking! :)

Wow again Steve!

Someday you will probably end up with my stuff and fix it all up after its neglected life!

.

Damn you Steve! :p ;) Just about the time I get completely over my urge's and feeling's that I just absolutely have to have one of those Beautiful Blades you have to go and post an outstanding picture of one!
And I'll bet you didn't even kiss 'em fer the price you got it at either did you? ;)
No problem I wouldn't have either. I love those 10% deals.:D

LOL Yvsa :D If you'd seen that basket case when I unwrapped it, you'd have thought $42 was WAY too much. :p

It's a nice piece, but it's no khukuri. The way it mounts in the handle is inherently weak. Wish I'd taken pics of it apart. I'm sure not all barongs are weak, but I wouldn't chop logs with this one. But vegetation, or in a fight, an awesome weapon. The curve of the hilt makes it almost impossible to loose your grip.

Glad I got you stirred up! :D

It's not an old piece. Maybe mid 20th century. The ferrule is made out of 1/8" thick brass plumbing pipe that WAS chrome plated. :barf: The seller said it was solid silver. The brass ring was made from a brass pipe coupling. You can still see traces of the threads inside. I guess you use what you've got. Plumber by day, knifemaker by night. hehe
