Uh. I'm almost sorry she's going into advertising... I've been doing it 20 years and sadly, am not rich yet or able to retire. It's fun (sometimes), and you have lots of time to goof off on the internet  but, well, who knows. I'll wish her luck.

Place I'm at starts a graphic artist at $9.00 an hour. You have to know 4-6 art programs at an expert level, and have an associates or bachelor's degree and 2 yrs experience.

"journeyman apprentice" press operator with no schooling starts at $15.63.

One of my uncles has six kids, 5 boys, 1 girl. The boys all became lawyers, one stock broker, one doctor. The girl went into advertising. I thought, "Hey- all right- gotta have a talk with Cuz'n Beth, tell her about the biz."

A year later she was in law school.

Here's a thought (or four).

For fifteen years, the number of those with law degrees has been increasing 14 times as fast as the population.

AND (BUT):

The average income before taxes for a 1st year practicing lawyer in Michigan in 2001 was about $6,000. (Journeyman apprentice press operator at $15.00/hr. = $30,000/yr. [50 x 40x 15])

In some states, less than half those who pass the bar exam end up practicing law.

In some states, less than half the law grads who take the bar exam pass it.

Possibly the girl will turn her liking of sports into a career... that would beat commercial art or law. :D

And $9/hr. would make you rich in some countries... everything's relative.

heck, I married one. Heather is 6' and not afraid to mix it up with the guys. When we moved for the first time we found her old Tae Kwon Do sparring gear. Bad idea. I had to resort to tackling her because she was kicking my tail with those long ol' legs of hers. Women are a lot tougher than many guys give 'em credit for. Good for her.

Attractive...artistic...tall...athletic...

Yvsa, if you're trying to marry her off you're doing a good job of it. :)

The real question, of course, is what she thinks of khukuris.
