When I went for my Pre-Op last Wednesday my surgery was tentatively canceled due to some heart abnormalties. I didn't want to say anything here until I found out for sure what was up and now I know and so do y'all.
This is an email I sent to my family and friends just before I came to the HI Forum and to save time and typeing I thought I would just post it instead of a whole new explanation. It's been a long day and I'm tired and lazy.
Well we finally made it back from the Dr. and the Cardiologist after leaving the house this morning at 9:45 a.m. and just getting back at 5:00 p.m.
I have a swollen lymph gland that would have canceled the surgery anyway so I guess its just a matter of sh*t happens.
The nurse at Pre-Op said, No infections in the body anywhere or the surgery wouldnt be done.
And if that wasnt enough to stop the surgery then the result of the visit to the Cardiologist today damned sure was.
After going over some old history and talking for a bit I started having some chest tightness right then and there and he had the nurse run an EKG.
I was having Arterial Fibrillations!!!!
Cant think of a better place to have your heart screw up than in your cardiologists office.
Needless to say he was somewhat concerned. After a little more serious discussion about the what, ifs and wherefores, he scheduled me for an Angioplasty for first thing in the morning. I have to be at the hospital no later than 7:00 a.m. and the procedure will be done at 8:00 a.m.
In 2001 I had a 40% blockage of the main line going into the heart and a 30% in the one leaving the heart.
A couple of other arteries had 85% and 70% respectfully.
Dr. K said that 50% - 70% in the main line in meant you were going to have a bypass surgery that could be done in a day or two.
If it is 75% or greater then bypass surgery will be done immediately if not sooner.
The stent and ballooning isnt done on the main line into the heart, too dangerous.
So anyway I have to get up early again in the morning and it appears that my haircut that I was going to have in the morning may be delayed a while.
And Ill have to set and smell the coffee that Barb gets to drink while I cant have one let alone my morning Coke, poor me.:grumpy:
The good thing is I can take my pain meds with a small sip of water.
Things will be fine methinks.
So anyway if I'm not back by sometime tomorrow they did an angioplasty and kept me overnight. If I'm not back by the next day then they did a heart bypass and I'll be back as soon as I'm allowed, that is if things go as expected.:foot:
