Well today was the big day. Got to see the results of the CT scan that was taken the day the Discogram was done. Just a confirmation that indeed the L-5 to S-1 joint is shot and it's bone against bone.
Seems I handle pain better than most folks according to Dr. Anthony, my pain management Dr. But I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Anyway surgery possible within three weeks! :D
Dr. Gaede said he would try the new procedure where he will do a tiny incision off at an angle and push through and around the muscle instead of cutting in from the back with a big incision.
Bone from the bone bank, cadaver bone I'm sure, will be inserted after the joint is spread apart and the nerves pushed off to the side making sure they have plenty of clearance.
The bone will be deposited where needed and then treated with a chemical that encourages bone to grow.
I'll be up at the side of the bed that evening and walking the next day, out the fourth day if I'm eating and drinking and having the consequent bodily functions.;)
A month in a chair back brace and I should be good to go, that's if everything goes all right.
Dr. Gaede said I should be able to expect at least a pain level of 2 if that much but that I may have to have injections into the SI joints from time to time.
After the surgery tests will be done to see about the pain emitting from my hips if it is still there to see if my hips need work.
Then the road to recovery again. I'll work at it as long as it doesn't hurt too bad.:D
Told Dr. Gaede that I was getting too old for this though. ;) :D

"Too old" -- nahh! My Grandma in KY fell from a ladder while painting at 92. Her hip was replaced and she was walking with a walker in six days, with a cane in 29 days, unaided in 81 days - three days before 93rd birthday. I went down to Russellville to visit, and she had me drive her around to take Christmas baskets to the "old folks."

She didn't notice that she was twenty years older than most of them. :D

Tough ole farts have a lot to teach the younguns.

May it go well, and the repair save you pain.

Pain. Nature's warning that there's something wrong with you. Wish it could be simply turned off, not just managed with meds. :(

Let us know when, Yvsa.

Think of it as an opportunity to buy a tatical cane :D . Good luck.
Yeah! A .45 ACP cane with a silencer. There's a silver lining for you.

Ad Astra

Hell, Yvsa, why spend all that dinero? Let me drive out there with my spyderco police and I'll pop a couple of fender washers in there an you'll be good as new! A regular bionic man! ;) Of course, I don't know anything about anesthetic (or surgery for that matter, but hell, how hard can it be?), so you'll have to wash down a couple Tylenol with a bottle of Gentleman Jack. In fact I'll help you drink it! :D

Seriously, it sounds like you got a good doc and a good plan. I'm no doctor but I'll bet fixing this problem will have a direct and positive effect on your hips as well. I hope so because we need you around another few decades to train up all these new Cantina guys. Me for one.

Good luck and God Bless, and you had better get online as soon as you can afterwards and let us know how it's going.

Regards,

Norm

Best of luck and take care. Here's to a speedy recovery AND creative tactical accoutrements. :D :D :D

That operation sounds like a godsend. Hope everything goes as well as its supposed to.

Getting some chassis work done Yvsa? Hmmm, while you're in there, make sure and pinch at least a couple of pretty nurses on the butt. "What, what, I did what? Sorry, must be the medication". :D

Smoke and best wishes for a successful op and a speedy recovery. E-mail me your address and I'll send you a flint striker and a curly maple handled neck knife (roughly 4 inch blade). 'Course you'll have to make the neck sheath yourself, give you something to do while you're recovering. ;)

Best wishes on the upcoming operation and a soon and thorough recovery.

May God be with you.

Greetings from Greece,

George :)

good luck with them city-folke medics & watcherass.

still think we coulda done it a lot cheaper with laha & superglue, y'all are mostly steel & ol' hickory anyway.

what kinda kukhri is the doc using? the world wants to know

..an' don't ferget to keep somethin sharp & pointy under yer pillow for them unwelcome nite time visitors (like them nurses that wake you up at 03:00 to make you take a pill to get you to sleep)

might want to take along some jerky & pemmican for after the op as hospital food is not designed for healthy people.

Great news, Yuh nSuh,

Get it over with, heal fast, and get out on the rollator.
