I have heard of O1 tool steel before and it seems intriguing, but I found this at Blade HQ.

"O1 (Steel) - has good edge retention, because it is hard material. Its major problem is that it rusts rather quickly if it isn't maintained. It has a carbon content range of .85-1.00%.
O6 (Steel) - a much tougher metal than O1. This is one of the absolute best edge retention steels."

One of the absolute best edge retention steels? I have never heard of it, anyone ever use it or know anyone to use it? I did notice some other not quite right information in their glossary of terms, so not quite sure.

o1 and o6 both have the same charpy values. o6 has a higher carbon content but also has graphite added to ease machinability. As quenched hardness for both is 65 rc. Not a very appreciable difference between the 2 other than machinability. Sounds like someones trying to hype up o6 for some reason or another. Draw your own conclusions.
