Test Kwaiken made by me
O1 tool steel (RC-59-60) with cryogenic treatment.
Thickness behind edge- .007"
Edge bevel: 40 degree inclusive
Initial sharpness:hair whittling, easily push cutting newsprint
20 cuts(120") push cuts newsprint easily
40 cuts(240") push cuts newsprint
60cuts (360") still push cutting newspaper (a little rough)
80 cuts (480") roughly cutting newsprint
100 cuts (600") will slice newsprint grabbing arm hairs
120 cuts (720") easily slicing newsprint. Barely shaving arm hair
140 cuts (840") easily slicing newsprint. Not shaving and barely grabbing any hair
160 cuts (960") slicing newsprint fairly easily
180cuts (1080")slices newsprint with one extremely small but detectable roll in the edge.
OUT OF CARDBOARD!!!
Stropped on leather+green chromium oxide. Easily push cuts paper with one spot still being slightly rolled. Hair popping sharpness was restored.
Conclusion: O1 held up wayyyyyy better than I expected. The very thin flat grind makes this thing one hell of a slicer. This test was done with 1/8" cardboard cutting with the "grain" for the first 160 cuts. The last 20 were cross cuts. Please feel free to comment and tell me what you think. I hope you enjoyed
