Hi everybody,
I have recently made a few "sandwich" blades with the outer layers of nickel-steel damascus and the center core out of pure O1.
After forging to shape,I found extremely dificult to drill a hole or file the blade. The outer layers remained "soft", but the O1 was really too hard. This was before tempering !
What have I done wrong?
Can anybody tell me the right way to do ?
Many thanks to everybody.
Please be indulgent with my English, I usually speak French!

Claude, you didn't mention anealing after forging, 0-1 will be in abrittle state after forging to anneal heat to 1400 f. and cool at the rate of 50 f. an hour to 1200 f. hope this helps
