Not finished yet but finally getting around to finishing one of the 01 blanks I got off of Dan a while back using arctic Birch

Took the little extra guard thingie off.

Some more pics with better pics of the woodgrain, and comparison with the original model HERE

Thanks.

I really love my 3v one but with the 01 being actually 1/8" (the 3v is slightly thicker) and with the birch instead of micarta the knife is WAY lighter, and will probably slice slightly better too.

looks great!

Just FYI for those lurking/reading....the 2009 Bushcrafts are spot-on 1/8" thick...whether CPM3V or CPM154.

It was the older versions that were oversize 1/8" (about 0.140" thick).

It ended up costing about $3 per blade...but had the added benefit of making it easier for me to put on a brushed/satin finish. ;)

Glad to see that blank in O1 worked out for you!

If anyone else is interested....I do have several more blanks already finished, just hangin' out waiting to be snatched up.

That's really cool! I didn't know that.

So Dan is it still possible to get "original recipe" bushcraft blade blanks or is having the waterjet cut like you do contingent upon there being a great number of all one kind?

Jim

the original is what it is - the original. Now available only on the 2nd market.

But your solution is a good one for those not wanting a prominent guard (or even none at all !)
