Nalgene says:

"Remember the old metal canteen? Well it’s been re-imagined for the new century. Sometimes you challenge yourself; other times you’re challenged by the elements. In either case, you need the new Nalgene Oasis. Large enough to pack a serious hydrating punch while staying portable. It’s made from durable Eastman Tritan with a Leakproof threaded cap. As tough as it is stylish, it’s the coolest canteen in camp. "

I've never liked the dark green (OD) plastic 32oz GI canteens..., always make the water taste plastic. My new Oasis is far cleaner and tastier.

I like a variety of canteens... stainless and others, and I like to have the canteen and cups (and stove, if possible) on a single pack.

I've got half a dozen Guyot Designs stainless steel bottles, and three stainless steel Kanteen bottles... both can be used with Olicamp (or similar) cups. The stainless steel canteens are nice to be able to boil your water right in the bottle, though the metal cups work adequate with steel, plastic or "other" canteens.

Same with the long time Nalgene bottles with Olicamp.

But I've purchased the Nato canteen, cup and stove, which are pretty nice canteen package (I prefer larger lids on the canteens, but the military packages are certainly usable).

But current GI canteens (plastic)...., I've never liked that. The older metal GI canteens are adequate. Monday I got my Oasis, along with GrillTop Stove Stand and Stainless Steel Canteen Cup Lid, which is be pretty good package. I've liked the larger GI steel cups (along with the Nato cups) more than the smaller Olicamp cups. Providing a larger "pot" for water or cooking.

I've seen those Nalgene Canteen's around but have not tried them out. Please keep us updated on how they work for you over time. The Military canteen cup, stove and whole setup is pretty nice. I have one on my Day pack and sometimes carry one on my 2+ day pack. That Stove and lid from your second link look rather nice!! :)

The slight plastic taiste from the Military canteens has never bothered me even when the water has been in there for 6+ months at a time. But I have noticed that sometimes aldy forms in the threads of the cap and that does bother me. So I just make sure to keep the mouth and cap really clean and dry if I'm packing the canteen away for a while and it's okay. BTW I notice the algy on all of my water bottles when the mouths and caps aren't cleaned enough.

They also make a black one with the "Blackhawk" logo on it, I have been wanting to try one mostly because there are so many items that work with the military canteens at great prices.

Hmm, I've had my plastic canteen & metal cup rig for probably 15 yrs of decent service...maybe it is time to upgrade. I like the shape of the canteen better than a round nalgene bottle for hiking, etc as it seems to be slightly better balanced in a pack pocket, etc...

i'm off to some camping stores in my area soon, i'll be looking

Picked one up for me and my girl. I'm liking it. A lot more ergonomic then the round ones.

I just pulled the trigger on a canteen kit yesterday...nalgene canteen, cup and cover. I have always used a widemouth nalgene with a titan kettle so I wanted to try out the old school with a new twist. You can never have too many kits laying around, heh

We were looking getting some Eastman Triton water bottles at work for promotional materials. As a test I filled one up half way with water and dropped from 4 feet. It cracked and split immediately. Catastrophic failure after one drop. I'm going to stick with stainless steel.

Eastman isn't Nalgene. You try the test with a Nalgene?

A real Nalgene would only have light blemishes from a 4 foot drop test ,hell it would probably be fine if it was fully filled with frozen water and dropped 4 feet.

Okay, that's like saying a Dozier D2 knife is the same as a Gerber D2 knife because they're made of the same thing.

Hey, I agree with you. I just ordered one of the Nalgene Canteen and got it today and it said it on a sticker on front.

Replaced my old GI surplus canteen that I didn't like the smell of. The Nalgene is really nice. Might have to get another for the wife.

And I think we both know that Dozier's D2 is like no other D2 out there.:D
