Hello Guys/Gals: AS my name would indicate I am a Spyderco collector so my knowledge on Buck knives has a lot to be desired :o . However a very good old friend of mine called me this evening knowing that I was a knife collector and asked me about a BUCK knife he has.

He says it is a folder with a genuine Buck leather sheath. He told me that the it was the BUCK model 1104 and it was like a Hunting Folder. He told me that he remembered buying it back in the 1970s but he couldn't nail down the year because it has been so long ago. However he was sure that it was sometime in the mid 70s. He said that he had it in his gun safe all these years and it's been kept in a very dry and controlled environment. He told me that the knife was in mint condition and had never been used or sharpened.

My question to all you BUCK Afficionados is two-fold. Is this model 1104 collectible? Also anything else you all could tell me I would certainly appreciate as far as maybe what blade steel they used or anything else that might be a factor. Thank you for your time folks. JD Spydo :)

hi jd
there is no such model number that i am aware of
if its a folder its probably the 110
to narrow it down more post a pic of it and someone here will be able to help

JD:

A few pictures would definitely help to nail it down. Just from the information you supplied, it sounds like a 110. If it was indeed made in the '70s, it can't be a 110 variant, as 110 variants were not around yet. If you can, include a legible photo of the tang stamp, the rear bolster spacer, and at least the left side of the frame.

Now that blows me away  It hasn't been that long that one of the cover of one of the BLADE magazines I got either in 04 or 05 they were celebrating the BUCK model 110's 40th birthday. I'm 53 years old and I am sure I can remember the 110 being aroung in the 70s

But please don't take me wrong I am not about to start a riff about something I have limited knowledge in. I will look for that BLADE magazine in the meantime. Because if BLADE magazine is correct that would make the model 110 go back to the 60s. Just wanting to learn. I'll get back to you guys when I find that issue of BLADE. JD

yes the 110 did come out in the mid 60's
but i think buck 110 meant that it cant be any of the later variations like the 111 112 etc
there is no number 1104 that is why pics and especially the tang stamp will go a long way to identifying it

Well let me ask you all this: Could it be possible that it was like maybe a 110 B? I won't have a picture of the knife until this Friday when I meet up with the guy. I agree with you though because it seems like all of the BUCK folders I've had over the years all had 3 number model designations. Even that old STOCKMAN model I used to own had a 3 number model name. I'm sure you guys have done your homework.

I'll know more when I see the knife in person. It really wasn't the right thing for me to ask you all this without having the knife right here.

The only BUCK model 110 that I own is one of those that came out in the late 90s, early 2000s. It is called the "EDGE 2000". It has that Titanium Nitride coating and you are only supposed to sharpen it on one side. I just bought it thinking that it might be collectible someday. But that model 110 looks like it's got a backwards C after the 110 number on the blade. I wonder now if that's what he's got and he's all mixed up about when he got it  ?

Welcome Spydo,
I am sure we can nail it all down once you get to see it and relay some more details to us. Those date codes did not come along until 1986. There was a time when we used dots, before and after the 110, but that would not look like a 4.
I am anxious to see what it is that your friend has! :)

IF IT IS A 110 WITH SOME KIND OF DATE CODE, IM CURIOUS WHERE CAN SOMEONE FIND A LIST OF BUCK'S DATE CODES

Thanks For The Answers Guys. You'll Have To Excuse The Fact That Im A Computer Idiot. I Dont Own One I Just Check At Work So Im A Little Slow.

Perhaps it could be a 1988 with the upside down V date stamp. Depending upon how sharp the stamping is this might be confused as the top of a 4?

OK I am going to meet up with my friend who has this knife this weekend. I will try to get a picture up there.

Yes the BUCK 110 I have is the ION FUSION Nitride coating. UNfortunately I did do some sharpening on it to learn how to sharpen that type of knife. I am sure any collector value has been destroyed. But that's OK it might make a great backpacking knife that won't have to be sharpened much.

Actually I'm going to start another thread about that. SEE "NItride Coated BUCK knives"

I may be interested in taking that POS 110 Buckcote off your hands JDS.

My community service is to provide a home to wayward 110 Bucks as the wife didn't like the idea of my renting out the spare rooms to college co-eds that were hurtin' for cash.
