Obscure military patches.

I'm looking for some patches of my old USAF unit. I was with the 438th Aerial Port Squadron out of McGuire AFB, NJ. The unit no longer exists and finding patches is proving difficult. The attached pic is what the subdued patch looks like but I am looking for the full color patch. I know they exist but they are harder to come by since the unit was deactivated. Anyone have any leads on where to look?

I can't promise anything, but I'll send out a small flurry of e-mails and texts to old friends and colleagues. I'll post here if I find anything.

Of course, don't hold your breath. Old patches are tough to find.

Have you tried Kaufmann's on 42st across from Port Authority?
Jim has all sorts of stuff in that basement.
If he doesn't have them he might have a lead...

Have you tried contacting the Historian at McGuire? He may have a lead for you as well. I have a 305th OSS patch somewhere if you want it :)

I already made the trip down there with no luck. The 305th was after my time but thanks for the offer. I'm trying to rebuild my flight jacket that got damaged so the 438th APS patch is a must.

If you remember or can find the coloration you might have to get it custom made. Probably the best option at this moment.

I looked into that option but a minimum of 50 pieces is required. That''s not the type of money I wish to dish out.

There are custom patch makers on the Bay that will do one-off patches for not a lot. I've had some made for my service dog's vests. You might check with veterans associations for an original one though.

Or if your unit is having a reunion, you could pass them out as momentos, to replace the ones on their flight suit, or to add to a new one.

I would love to fins the old 400 MMS(t) squadron patch from Okinawa. 18th TFW Kadena. The booth was not my first munitions SQ but was my first EOD squadron. Funny, if we knew what these old things would mean to us we might have saved a dozen of every unit patch we were ever near. Ballcaps too.

sigh.

Hey Ken, I'm not sure if you're looking for vintage or a replica patch. I have gotten a few replicas from Popular Patch Military Patch Provider before, and they have quite a few options that are pretty obscure. I have had to call them on a couple items as they don't have all their stock on the website.

Hope it helps.
