I got a new AR with the help of a good friend. Thanks again S!

I have an MT, fg AD, fg EBLT, fg GB and now a fg AR. One of the first thing I noted was while the liners on my GB have the apperance of having been bead blasted and the spacers polished. The AR seems to have polished or at least not bead blasted liners and mat finished spacers. I like the way both knives look. I was woundering if there was a reason for the change?

I also note that the AR has thinner thrust washers than my GB, which I only got this past December from BADASS KNIVES. The blade opens a whole lot smoother but it does exhibit some lateral play when open if I hold the lock out of engagement. The lock on the AR also took some time to "break in" that my GB did not. The lock up on the AR is quite solid when it is properly engaged and there is not any noteable play in the blade. I am interested in finding out why the switch to the thinner thrust washers.

The next thing I noted was the finish on the blade it much nicer than that of the GB. I was woundering if that was due to the difference in blade steel, S30V vs the BG 42 on the GB? Because it is so much smoother may be part of the reason that the blade opens so very smoothly also.

The portion of the blade just above the cut out for the lock on the front or cutting edge side of the blade also looks as if it were ground after the blade was finished. It is bright like the sharpened edge of the blade. I found this to seem strange. Almost as if it was noted too late or until after the blade was finished that that portion of the blade would not clear the stop pin . I am curious as to the proper reason if I may ask?

Lastly I noted a switch from the markings on the blades. The markings on my MT differ slightly from my other STRIDERs mostly due to the fact the MT is over five years old. The STRIDER winged logo is the same size and looks identical. On my MT "STRIDER" is stamped in all caps in simple block letters. On my other STRIDERs, the "STRIDER" name is stamped in a different way. Still all caps but it has a really cool appearance, almost like old type set. I happened to get the GB, AD and the EBLT all late last fall, earily winter so they all have the same cool "STRIDER" name stamp. Well the AR does not have this stamp. The STRIDER name is in all caps but looks as if it were lazer cut (and if I might add it is not near as cool looking ;)) as does the STRIDER winged logo, which is smaller than that of the logos on my other four STRIDERS. Was this change also made due to the change in blade steel? Or have you simply just changed tooling? Not that that would be simple at all.

I just got the knife this afternoon and have as of yet to really get out there and play with it. The lock still needs some breaknig in. I am sure that it will be just fine. I would like to thank the STRIDER team for bringing such great knives to the market. I have a few more STRIDERS on my knives wanted list so keep up the awesome job!
