Ocean City and knife laws

This is old news (2014). In OC, the council are in the local police's pocket and pass any law they ask without question. Maryland did have a preemption bill on the docket last spring but it didn't make it out of committee. It would have made laws like this invalid. Oddly enough, the preemption bill was inspired by the Freddie Gray case, because he had an assisted opener which is illegal under Baltimore City law, but legal under state law. I had hoped the Dems would be on board to pass it, as most knife offenses are little more than "tack on" charges (i.e. when the cops catch someone behaving oddly but not breaking the law so they have an excuse to cuff them), usually against minorities. Maybe next year.
