If you are ready to purchase the knives that were chosen by the BladeForums.com Members for the BladeForums.com Knife of the Month Club, feel free to visit the BladeForums.com Store: http://www.bladeforums.com/store/knives/knifeofthemonth.html

Again, the knives chosen for October are the Busse Basic #7, REKAT Fang or Utility Neck Knife, Benchmade Axis Lock 710, and the Leatherman Wave.

Prices are posted for each item, orders will take place from today, Oct 5 until Nov 1, and will be shipped as they come in.

That would be because we are dumbasses, and when we got the costs from Bob, we thought that the retail price was our cost. Oooops.

Anyhow, the Wave is $69.95 and the neck knives are $44.95 each.

Ok, fixed them both, so head on over to the store and buy away.

Whew... Good thing. Said I was going to buy 3 REKAT necks. But at $79 a pop...

Okay, going back to ordering three. Looking around the room for saved up pennies.

First off, I don't want this to be taken the wrong way; I'm not complaining, I'm not incensed, I'm not demanding an explanation, I'm just curious...

I'm quite interested in getting a Busse #7 to have a large indestructible knife around (the deal on the #9 was tempting, but it seems a bit too much to me like a knife that could double as a walking stick).

I was a little surprised to see Busse #7 arrive in the BF store with a $210 price on it; I was anticipating something a little lower, because your other prices have been pretty good deals, and because I've seen a couple other sites advertising the Busse #7 for $170-$175.

Are these other prices introductory prices that are no longer valid? (though they're still up on the web.) Has Busse raised their prices? (I can understand that unexpected things happen along the way towards bringing a new product line to market.) Is there some other reason I'm missing for the difference in price? (Really, tell me something that sounds reasonable, and I'll go away happy.)

If I might make a suggestion, which would have (mostly) answered this question before asking it: How about adding the MSRP's to the pages in the BF store (as in "MSRP $xx.95, our price $yy.95"). I'm not looking to scrutinize your prices and compare them to others under a microscope, I'm happy to send some business through the BF store to support the Forums; it would just make it clear what kind of deal is being offered.

(Actually... if you want to put a virtual item in the BF store that says "click here to 'contribute' $20 to help defray the operating costs of BladeForums", I'll promise to click on it at least once a year.)

Like I said, this isn't a complaint, I'm just curious,

Actually, yes, you are correct, those were introductory prices which are no longer valid.

Busse Combat did raise their prices and all dealers should contact their distributors to find out the current prices for all of the Busse Combat line. The prices you are seeing are a reflection of the price list that was introduced at the 1999 SHOT Show (Feb). By the time the Blade Show rolled around (June), several factors had changed, raising the prices. Many of these dealers are going to be suprised when their first order comes in and they learn that the price has gone up, which is why I recommend they contact either their distributor or Jerry Busse to find out the current prices.

The Busse Combat Basic #7 is supposed to retail at $240.00. I will tell you this, the dealers who are selling the #7 for $170-5 are making a very small margin on them....

I've mentioned in the Suggestions area already, but I think the Knife of the Month club page needs some pix (or links to them).

Not all of us who may be interested in buying know enough about them to be aware of their appearance and specs.

Longden has a good idea. I wasn't really interested in the BF Native until I saw a picture; then I ended up getting two of them. No, wait...on second thought maybe that is a _BAD_ idea!
