The JK “Improved Bowie Knife” really should be renamed the
JK “NOT A BOWIE KNIFE”.’
This remarkable, yet simple knife, is our favorite general purpose OUTDOORSMAN knife
Handmade in John’s shop in Mokena Illinois it’s an all purpose hunter, fisher, bushwacker favorite!
Here is the knife for the true outdoorsman who isn’t influenced by fads, fiction or hyperbole.
Here is the one knife for cutting tent stakes, slicing potatoes. field dressing a buck or filleting a fish.
This true outdoors knife is perfect to whittle a deadfall trigger, split kindling, slice bacon and bread, clean a rabbit and still shave your arm bare! This knife has a handle that fits a mans hand properly so that maximum pressure can be applied to the blade when needed. Experts like Sam “Stick” Fergunson agree that one should not choose a true backcountry knife wit a metal hilt, but rather a knife with a specially designed hiltless handle that will not slip your grip and yet not have that pesky
metal hilt that is always in the way for cutting or sharpening.
This rugged knife uses three oversized pins to hold the handle slabs of your choice with the no extra cost option of having the top pin hollow for a lanyard or sheath safety loop. This blade works well with Micarta, or selected hardwood handle slabs- YOU CHOOSE!
John will build your knife with High Carbon O1 steel, 154CM stainless or CPM S30V super stainless steels all heat treated and tempered to a high Rockwell Hardness in John’s own shop so the quality can be
completely controlled. The choice of steel is yours!
The blade of this knife is 5” long which balances the 4-1/2”, man sized handle perfectly!
This blade hand ground from from 3/32” stock in the flat grind style. This makes the knife a near lazer
for slicing and keeps the weight to a minimum. JK knives are always sharpened to shaving sharpness
with an edge that’s easy to keep sharp. Sheaths can be supplied in leather from John’s shop or you can order your knife without a sheath.
This knife is destined to be your favorite take along knife, be you a hunter, fisherman, woods bum or camper.
This is the knife you will proudly wear on your belt to let the world know that you are truly a thinking man not influenced by flashy ads or silly nonsense notions of unicorns and zombies. This knife will be your forever, no nonsense, reliable and trusted companion.

I might have to get my name on the list for one of these, John. I'll shoot you an email in the next day or so.

John, I'm in on this. Really cool design. I would like a small change to the handle. That's the great thing about working with you is that I can get small (but important to me) changes to the design. I'll send you an email to confirm what I want. Thanks for this special!

I'll probably have to come back around for one in stainless, maybe even go right to S30V. I don't have anything that big in a ridiculously high edge retention steel anymore. But I have a lot of knives on order with you already. Still, 5" of a thin slicer with a toothy edged hard steel like S30V could be pretty amazing.

My thoughts exactly!!

If this knife were going to live in the kitchen 90% of the time, would I be better off with 154CM or S30V?

154cm will be tougher so if you're hitting a lot of bonea then that wpuld be my choice. Otherwise, S30V is going to resist blunting a lot better from regular use and it will shrug a cutting board off really well. It's not going to reapond to a standard sharpening steel thoigh as it's too hard so touchups on a stone or ceramic rod are a more effective way to maintain the edge, in my experience.

This is a tough choice. I have the B&T in 154cm and I like it, but the patina on my Rule#9 looks beautiful. I'm just concerned that my wife won't take proper care of the 01.
