If anyone is looking for a stout little 3" blade knife, be sure to check out the Kershaw OD-1. Just picked one up to replace my well worn, well loved, mini-Grip that I lost about 2 weeks ago. After I lost my Grip, I carried around my 14210, but I don't like taking it to work (remember the Grip?). Figured I needed a replacement. Went to go get one and my local guy talked me out of it with the OD-1.

G-10, frame lock, nice blade shape, hidden-when-open flipper (which works quite well) all for $42 with tax. Made in USA? Damn right.

You know how the mini-Grip doesn't fit your whole hand? No issues here. This thing is great. Addictive flipper too.

To be fair, I'm pretty hard on my knives. They get used to do things they really shouldn't. My mini-Grip was the champ, it really was. Some of you guys would never loan me your knife (and I'd never ask, I carry my own). My Grip lasted two years service in the military and never failed. The OD-1 has that to live up to. I'll keep you all posted if anything of consequence happens.

They are nice little knives. I however would not classify them a hard use though. The blade tip is a bit too thin, so be careful with that. I do like how they have a lock bar stablilizer, with a very easy to disengage lock. The only thing I wish they would add would be some jimping on the spine and on the frame beside the flipper for a bit more sure grip. But hey for $42, and MADE IN AMERICA, I can't complain too much!!!

I see some shallots on ebay now for $43 shipped. I wonder how the two will compete with each other.

The Kershaw OD-1 looks like a real nice folder, especially for the money. My local Wally World doesn't carry them, and I won't be making it out much since I just spent 4 days in the hospital from back surgery. Maybe one of these days I will see one in person. It really looks like it could be a great little cutter, and Kershaw's new steel really interests me from a Knife Knut's perspective. It should get real sharp and stay that way if the steel specs and performance match. This is definately a very nice looker that should be a pretty tough performer.

it seems like a great knife, i really dig the flipper system. the only thing that stopped me from buying one is how much knife sticks out of your pocket when the clip is mounted for tip up carry.
