I'm a little bored today since I can't really do much outside the house. Got my wisdom teeth yanked Thursday. When the Vicaprofen is working, no pain. When it starts wearing off (like it is now) I'm looking forward to the next dose....and I have an hour and a half to the next pill........ :( The worst thing is I'm dying for some real FOOD......

Anyway - no sniveling! I put it off for a few years and I'm glad it's over!

I found the tutorial that KnifeAddictAK did in this link and followed his advice on how to weave a D-Guard. Instead of just tying off the end, I added another piece of paracord and fashioned a "tail" with inspiration from Porkerson's daughter. Here are a couple photos I took really quick in my garage. The lighting was pretty poor, but I thought I'd share anyway. 45-70 Gov't in case you're wondering...

Nice Job!!! I went for the 450 Marlin scout  Love that scout mounted leupy ;)

I have a prestine 1956 winchester 30-30. I use to have a 45-70 marlin but sold it. Dumb move.

I love lever action rifles. good pic.

That looks good. Darn good!

Wish the overhead light I just finished up in my bathroom looked that good! :(

I haven't shot the .450, but I hear about five rounds is all you want to endure at one sitting. I opted for the .45-70 so I could shoot the low-er power rounds and step up to Buffalo Bore loads if I wanted to get more power. The rounds in this photo are pretty robust, but not up to the power of the .450 or the Buffalo Bore .45-70s. They're 350 grains, 2025 fps / 3167 ft/lbs at the muzzle (probably from a 24" bbl). Says only to be used in "newly manufactured 1895 Series lever-action rifles, Ruger No.1 & No. 3 and Shiloh Sharps Rifles." I would like to try one of the scout equipped rifles sometime.

I too have a passion for good lever guns, from .22 on up

Very nice! I was wondering where you had gone! Wisdom teeth are no joke when they are not in place, get well fast. :D

Thanks guys for the compliments - I had a good tutor in KAAK ;)

Dwayne - I'll send you an e-mail here in a bit........ :D

That is awesome! Makes me want to do one.

Super cool job.

Looks great there Woodrat...! ...And thanks for the link.

Peter, I am also going to give it a try as soon as I get the right color paracord... I am thinking maybe desert camo 550 paracord. :)

For those thinking about doing a D-Guard on your knife, it's really pretty simple, but one tip that Bryan added to his post which is good advice is this:

"I have to make a couple slight corrections that I have found after doing these repeatedly lol. Rather then every few rows, tighten every two rows. It will help keep it more uniform. And you should be able to get away with just 15 feet of paracord to do the 3 strand wrap shown above."

If you go to long before taking up the slack, it will be more difficult to get the weave even (you can do it, but it takes more effort). Also I found that if you make the three strands you are weaving through a little tighter than you want, it will turn out closer to what size guard you are looking for, because with all the pulling to make it tight, it will eventually loosen up a little. I figured it would be the opposite that the more weaving you did, the smaller the dimension would be, but that's not how it turned out......for me at least.

I'll probably do it again to make it a little shorter i.e., less slack in the loop. :D

P.S. - It's definitely a good idea to have the knife in a sheath when doing this ;)
