Odd asian knifemaker

I havent heard of them, but some of them look like knock offs, and with sawbacks added for no reason. How much is 30000 yen in US dollars?

That is a group of three different makers on that site.
kanetsune had a table at Blade and did a fine business. I got two of his blades and wish I had gotten more. He might have had knives of the other makers there. I didn't look to see or ask who made what. Great looking knives all around.

Pretty common here. Every year there is a knife MOOK (Magazine but glossy book quality) that features a selection of most knife makers (factory) and some Japanese smiths. It usually has a heavy emphasis on the Mall Ninja stuff but there are some utility and trad Japanese stuff in there too. Tsuge usually runs a 2-4 full colour ad in that publication (at about US$10,000 a page he must be doing OK)

There is a very strict 'Firearms and Sword' control here but Japan does not have a law banning things. AFAIK you are not supposed to carry stuff around, but in terms of camping knives etc, there is not a problem. The only thing illegal to buy are Daggers and Auto's. Although daggers are available at a lot of knife shops so its hard to see how much they press this law. On another note, there have been a lot of stabbings and slashings here, fortunately there isnt the mass hysteria that we get in my native UK. The method of killing is mentioned and then thats it.

It was a law enforced by the US after WWII. It hasnt changed since although you can have swords, you just need a licence for them or you can have one and store it at a friends house or whatever that has the licence. A bit like a FFL owner.
