I picked this axe up today at an estate sale. There are no other markings on it other than this one and I am hoping it will be identifiable. The axe has been abused but is not terrible.

That sure is different than anything I've seen. It looks like a stylized H. Maybe try a Google image search, and you might get a hit on a cropped picture of just the symbol. Good luck.

Thanks, good idea. I thought the same thing, is it an H or an A, depending how you look at it?
 
It could be an A, but the top would be missing and doesn't look worn there. There was a thread on this forum of a lot of the vintage axe manufacturers, but I haven't been able to find it. That could give an idea of what makers to look up for stamps.
