Hi Everybody
Has anyone ever seen a Becker Brute that was grey? It also has no markings on it I belive it is called sterile. It also was before Camillus bought them.Any more info would be helpfull, collector value?

The original BK&T Brute had a gray blade and a black handle. The Blade was marked "BK&T Brute" and "Effingham Illinois".

If I remember correctly, Becker was under the Blackjack Knives' flag at the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I recently acquired a Brute in a trade from a fourmite. It is exactly like the one that you are describing. It has no markings on it what so ever. I also have one that is/was made by BlackJack in Effingham, Ill., and the new onw did not have any of those markings on it.

I don't know if this answers your question, but I thought that I would chime in that I have the exact thing that you art describing.

Guys,
Any BK&T's you find that have GREY PAINT on the blades, is BlackJack production. Some were marked, some were not. Some were stainless, some were carbon. Some BlackJack produced BK&T's were coated, some were not. But ANY BK&T with the grey paint/coating on the blade is BlackJack produced, regardless of whether it has markings or not.

I hope this helps, and thanks for the interest!

Thanks Guys that is very helpfull does any one have a aproximate value? or trade value, I will never sale it just wanted know its value.I can post pics later:D

I have a Campanion that has a frosty coating with the Black handle. It is stamped "BK&T" in large letters and "CINCINNATI USA" underneath it. The stamping is very light and the sheath is black leather. I was told it was made in the early 80's.
I was told by a friend that Becker had a machine shop in Cincinnati that made a BK&T line in the early 80's. The black sheaths were contracted out to a guy in Adams county Ohio. This was when he was going to knife shows, fireman, and police conventions selling his tac tool, machax, and campanion(he mentioned these knives by name). I have not had this info verified by a second source. I am also looking for more info on the early days.

Owned a gray (carbon steel) Campanion for a while but never liked it all that much. The grinds weren't done very well and the overall execution fell short. The Eagle sheath was pretty good though. Ended up selling it to a collector. I now have a new Campanion and it is truly excellent. Great steel and much better made. This one I'll keep. Tempted to remove the black coating on the blade though...

Also had a stainless, bead blasted Brute from the early days before gray paint. Used it for a long time and was pleased with the design but not the edge holding. I sold it and bought a new one. No comparison. The current production is a much, much better blade. It's the reason I decided to try another Campanion.

Still, I kind of miss the look of the old Brute: bead blasted steel with the flowing grind of the edge into the choil. I suppose that some of us just don't warm up to black coated blades like we do to bare steel.

I started looking at big knives because my brother-in-law got a used knife with no markings. I was on the Camillus web site when I recognized the Machax, as the knife he bought used. His came with a heavy fabric sheath. It looks like the sheath for the BK7, only heavier. Does anyone know if that sheath was an aftermarket addition or did it come with the Blackjack version of the knife?
