I have been talking my neighbor and he and a friend are looking for a specific kind of knife for cleaning waterfoul. They liked the TOPS scalpel, but thought it was a bit too thick.

The design of interest was Curtis's idea. he wants to find one with a tip rounded like a butter knife, but sharpened all the way to the top edge. I think it is an interesting idea. Has anyone seen anything like that?
I had thought about maybe a sheepsfoot blade, but he wants a bit more edge.
Thoughts?

How about getting a butter knife and sharpening it in that manner? With a clean enough primary grind, that should let him know if it will or won't work as well as he wants.

My favorite waterfowl-cleaing knife is a Spyderco Catcherman. Knives of Alaska makes a big game knife skinning knife called the "Muskrat" that has an edge all around the rounded blade. I'ts 1/8-inch thick though.

L.L.Bean once sold a knife with a similar blade. (I got one.) It's a Zytel-handled liner-lock folder with a 4" hollow-ground blade, 9" overall length. The blade is only 1/16" thick and the grind goes three-quarters the way up the rounded point, with the secondary bevel slightly less, but it could easily be sharpened further up. I think it may have been made by Kershaw.

They call it Camp Knife and suggested it for kitchen duty -- slicing bread and spreading stuff on it.

Thanks. I will look up the knives mentioned. i am interested in seeing him use it as I am not sure what he is after.
