Odd idea...

I was thinking about cars today and how you can take a big engine from one and put it into a lighter body. It got me thinking. I remember reading a post that said BM would disassemble a BM42 for a fee. Would it be possible to send them a 42 and a 44 Tanto blade and have them replace the blade on the 42 with the one from the 44? Personnaly I love tantos but I also love the Ti handles. Would the blade even fit? Are the holes the same distance apart? Is the blade the right length/width/thickness?

I would personally love to see a hybrid. Anyone else?

Well, I think the idea is good, but the execution would be damn near impossible. First I doubt BM would do it, and second, you would have to kill the 44 to get it done. Also, I'm not even sure if the 44 blade would fit the 42 handles, and if it did, it probably wouldn't be as nice as either one was before hand. Might just be a good idea ot get yourself a custom tanto with Ti handles.

BaliLover, innovative idea. Personally, I don't think the 44 blade would fit the 42's ti handles.. but even if they did, it would probably ruin the balance of the knife. Not only that, but it'd be crazy to tear apart a 44 just for the blade. If you want to have a tanto with ti handles, have one made for you.

BM has withdrawn that offer. The problem is that if they do it for the Model 42, they'd pretty much have to extend it to all of their other models too and that would just get out of hand. Your basic idea of replacing the blade in a 42 remains a good one and I hope to have a custom maker talked into such projects shortly.

Sorry.

I really didn't mean go out and tear up a perfectly good 44 but if you were to find one with handles in REALLY bad shape (I've seen em) with a good blade. I know it's not really feasable but neither is a Honda CRX with a Blown 350 (seen that too).

I think I am actually conversing with the same custom maker Gollnick

, and I am pretty excited abotu it too.. hand it to your charm mon ami.

I am surprised not many have jumped on this boat. Think of all those innocent kids who've spent millions on the so called "cheap hop up parts" for their tamiya model racing cars. but I agree that this is a very precise and risky operation for a custom maker who can basially churn out fixed blades for a sweet and easy profit.. you have to respect the pioneers. I woudl however go the other way around and change the handles on a 42 blade
