I just bought a new knife, and I'm trying to figure out if it's ligal or not. I'm in Berkeley, and I know the 3" law, but the knife has four blades. Is there any law on the number of blades or anything like that? I've also included pictures if that helps.

I gotta ask, why would you buy a knife like that, what possible purpose could it have other than hang on a wall or sit on a shelf?

Yeah I have to ask the same question. What could you possibly use that for that would give you a logical reason for carrying it?

It's no issue with the number of blades and such. To echo T. Erdelyi and Danzz's query, I just hope you don't go 'The Gathering' mode with that piece of yours. It is attention-grabbing to LEO's and IMHO, better off as a display piece.

I am a Police Officer in California. I have been collecting, carrying, and using knives for most of my life. I have probably examined a hundred knives I have found on people I have searched. If I searched you and found that knife, you would not be subject to arrest, however, you would be subject to being made fun of for carrying it in the first place. A knife only serves two purposes. It is a tool and a weapon. That knife is not the best choice for either purpose.

I once dated a girl who had a knife just like that. I made fun of her for it.

We're not dating anymore. ;)

Looks illegal to me since it can fit together like a throwing star, which is illegal. Those are the kinds of "knives" that make legitimate knives look more like fantasy weapons, please don't carry it.

I wouldnt even call this a knife. Just a toy that will eventually seriously hurt someone.

yea i would say to stay away from carrying a knife like that, if it for self defense im quite sure its not going to turn out very well, for u at least

That's one of the dumbest knives I've ever seen.

4 blades wouldn't be a problem. Plenty of SAKs/multitools and traditional slipjoints have more than a few blades.

But that thing screams "weapon". Legal or not, I wouldn't carry anything like that simply because it obviously isn't meant for utility.

yea there is no actual limit for folders in california, some length requirements for business areas and schools

but there are laws for some cities and towns, for my city and the citites around us, its 4"

Practical Use- The city of Berkeley has a law prohbiting carry of knives with blades over 3". On the other hand, CA law allows carry of folding knives on UC campuses; so as long as you never leave school grounds, there's no problem. :D

=D Just don't leave school grounds. Interesting how you got on school grounds in the first place with a 6" Vaquero Grande.

P.S. Don't pull one on your professor.
