A friend recently picked up this knife. Small folder, clip point with some type of serrations on the back. The handle is copper, skelaton. He says its a fish knife. Had the name Scharge on the blade which is why I posted it on this forum Any info?

I believe the knife you are referring to is a Schrade Wirejack Fishing knife. ( see attached) These knives were made by George Schrade, by the George Schrade Knife Company in Bridgeport Conn and were not made by the Schrade cutlery company in Walden NY. While it is true that George Schrade was a founder of both companies he had long before sold his interest in the original Schrade company.

George Schrade was quite prolific in the knife industry and over the years was affiliated with several knife firms. This particular company was his last endeaver. These knives were made in the 1930 tys and 40 tys they came in several models and were designed to be a tough, durable, inexpensive alternative to regular pocket knives. As a result many many of them were sold. Originally these were plated in nickle. There are many good books on George Schrade I suggest George Schrade and his accomplishment to the knife industry ( now out of print however if you contact knifeworld.com they may be able to procure a copy for you.) The collector value of your knife in mint condition is 20 to 35 dollars. In the condition you describe ( plating gone ( much less ). I hope this helps and I hope this is the correct knife. LT

Lt, we've missed you here! Glad to see you back and helping out. This question had me baffled.
George Schrade was a knife genious, and this kinda knife is proof. I've had a bunch of them, every one still had great walk & talk, even the one the owner found buried in his garden (took a lot of oiling, though).

Not to hijack this thread.....
But it's good to see LT back on the forums.

Bill :)
