Odd question about/for Kershaw service.

I have been pleased with my interactions with the Kershaw service/warranty dept. But I have an interesting question.

I purchased a 2005 model 1800 Mini Mojo. I like everything about the design and it makes a good, seemingly non-threatening, edc knife that will be able to just about anything I could need it for in that role. The one thing I don't care for is the blade steel. Besides having a wicked recurve that makes it difficult to sharpen to begin with, the steel is relatively soft and I am having difficulty getting it to where I want it on the personal sharpness meter.

Do you think Kershaw be willing to sell me one of the newer 13c26 Sandvic blades for this knife? Has anyone done anything like this before?

Regards,

I really doubt it, Toast.
You might have to suck it up and get a Mojito if you want the 13C26.
Unless something were physically wrong with the blade, I can't see
Kershaw swapping blades with ya or selling you just a blade.
I could be wrong, so it wouldn't hurt to give Kershaw a call.

Also. Buy a sharpmaker. Use the corner rods and follow the directions and you can sharpen recurves and hawkbills alike :)

iam, I have both the 440A and the 13C26. I can get the 440A sharper than the 13C26. But you're right, the edge doesn't hold as long.

The sharpmaker will work fine, but if you want the 13C26, look for one with a BOD of AUG 07 or later.

Funny how different people are...when I stick a MM in my pocket, it's usually the older one.

Interesting story, enough so to bring this thread back to the top.

In October 2007, I gave a good friend of mine a Mini Mojo for his birthday. It was an older model with the 440A blade. He had been carrying a Gerber folder, and was very impressed with Sandy's MM. Prior to giving him the knife, I had sharpened his Gerber folder many times. He always liked the edge I put on it.

Since October 2007 he had been carrying the MM. I never saw the Gerber again. On his birthday this year I gave him a Mini Cyclone, and he was impressed with "the beast". He mentioned that his Mojo needed sharpening, as he had used it to cut a bunch of RG58 coax cable...the metal shielded stuff. Well, the Mojo edge was pretty beat up, and seeing that he now has a new MC, I was in no hurry to resharpen the Mojo. I figured it would give him some time to get aquainted with the MC.

Last night around 10 PM, I finally got around to looking at his knife. I don't think I could have hurt myself with it if I had tried, it was that beat up. The nice pointy tip was blunt. Using only the sharpmaker and a strop, I spent an hour or two working on it whilst watching TV and crusing BFC. When I finished, that knife was SHARP! I gave it back to him this morning, as we were working together delivering Thanksgiving baskets to the needy (yeah, DV has a soft heart and does a bunch of non court-ordered community service!). The first thing he does is snap it open and push his thumb square against the edge. I really wished I'd had a camera. The look on his face as he watched the blood run from a clean half inch long slice was priceless! What are friends for, right? :D

So I guess the point of this rambling is that 440A can get very sharp if done properly. Don't ever assume that a knife won't take an edge just because it doesn't have the latest greatest steel.

Sharpen them old edges properly, and they'll cut you just as quick and as bad as ZDP, SG2 or 110V!

You tell him to super glue it? A real friend would have (once he got done laughing).
