I love carrying my XMs and I actually use whichever one is in my pocket pretty much every day........there always seems to be something.......a lose thread.....a package to open.......mail.........whatever.......and I always find myself quite pleased to pull it out........flip it open and use it for whatever needs to be cut.......

But the knives I use most......are my kitchen knives.......and all the chatting about food last night got me wondering.......

I know Rick used to make a lot of varied and different fixed-blade knives before he started with the Flames, Fire-Tacs and XMs........but did he ever make kitchen knives.......????

Because that would be cool......a Hinderer equipped kitchen.......:D

I'd definitely be into that......!!!

We've been "Buggin" for years for "Hinderer Quality" in other aspects of our EDC lives (Flashlights etc.) for now We enjoy Knives and Pens (and Accessories of course) but....
Certainly within his skillset but as far as I am aware if you want to deploy a Hinderer edge in your kitchen - You already have it (in your pocket) :)

A pity......

I have used my XM in the kitchen from time to time.......more for fun.......and just to use it........but there are some jobs that are definitely better suited to purpose-built kitchen knives......

And yes.....that would easily be in his skillset.......he'd be awesome at it.......just wasn't sure if he ever did anything like that in the "Mustang Forge" days.......

Well........perhaps someday.........definitely keep "buggin".......

You could pick up a Fieldtac and use it to chop up lettuce, tomatoes, and other various veggies! :triumphant:

A set of custom chef's knives from Rick would be pretty sweeeet. But the world of kitchen cutlery is huge and storied with many, many options for current consideration.

Agreed, lots of great options out there for kitchen knives. I have three kitchen knives from another custom knife maker (Tom Krein).

N2K........I enjoy cooking.......makes the afternoon drinking seem reasonable:D........so I've always had great knives for the kitchen.......but yes.......custom chef knives from RHK would be sweet........I'll just add it to that "If RHK Made It, I'd Buy It........" thread if I can track it down........

But wouldn't you love a set from Rick.....????:D

I wonder what he uses in the kitchen........

I use High Carbon steel (Wusthof) kitchen knives...... There is a guy from Japan that attends the ECCKS/NYCCKS handmade kitchen knives, I say every year "Gonna get one of those" but I keep my budget saved for RHK's :)

Rubi.........Wusthof does make some awesome knives.........I've used a few before.......

Funny(-ish) story........A buddy of mine enjoyed "poking fun" (let's call it that) because I like to carry a knife in my pocket.......so I convinced him - about a year ago - to start carrying a little knife I gave him in his pocket for a few weeks........just to see.......
He lasted three weeks before he came back to me and said he was stunned......he used it every day......often more than once.......and he wanted a better knife......slightly bigger (3") blade.........so I gave him something else.......
He was back in two weeks and he asked me if I could sharpen his knife.......so I pulled out the Wicked Edge and put a razor edge on the knife.......showed him how sharp it was......and told him to be careful........he promptly cut his thumb testing the edge......and he asked me if all my knives were that sharp......so I stupidly said "Yes"......
About a week or two later he invited me over for dinner.........
.......and asked me if I could bring over the knife sharpener........
So I walk into his kitchen to discover he has one bald arm.......two gorgeous NY Striploins.....a pile of cold beer......and all his kitchen knives in a pile to be sharpened.......they were Wusthofs and he had let them get DULL........
Anyway......got them sharpened and they were awesome to use......great weight and comfortable to hold.......
Still amazes me just how many people have DULL knives in the kitchen........
Anyway......I'm working up to getting him into an XM......he's not ready for that yet......but we're getting there........
We are at the point where he appreciates carrying a knife and razor sharp blades........
Baby steps.......

Great story Ross! Felt like I was there. I have had several similar chapters sans the delightful Steak offering (sadly)
Great Hobby to share and by default bestow the joy on others.

Kinda on topic. What is the proper blade for steak knives? All mine have always been serrated and even at fine restaurants they bring out a huge serrated knife for steaks. I've always thought they were the correct blades but when I started looking around in the knife makers section I see mostly different grinds.
