Odd request- Want to buy your latest KI

Hi Folks :)

This is an odd thread, but please hear me out.

I got an email from a fellow asking me about some knives he saw in Knives Illustrated. I wasn't sure what he was talking about, and he said the photos were in the latest issue of KI, in a write-up Les Robertson did for me.

I always try to stay subscribed to the magazines to help support the knife community. But, being so busy this year, I didn't realize my KI subscription had lapsed. :o :foot:

So just subscribe right? Well, yea..... But we are having a birthday party for my Grandma this Saturday, she's going to be 89. She is one of my biggest fans, and would be absolutely tickled pink to see the write-up.

I haven't been able to find the issue around here or online... so I'm hoping to find someone (probably further east than WA) that has the issue and would be willing to sell it to me, and ship it to WA by Saturday, May 19th.

Yea, it's a big, fat, crazy, weird request... but it is what it is, so I'm just throwing it out there.

Thanks guys :)

If i could make it on time, i will do it. At least three copies left at one of big mall here in Jakarta, Indonesia. But, seems that i couldn't send it on time.
Your works are awesome.
Happy B'day to your grandma, long life and healthy. GBU

I would contact KI directly. Maybe they could overnight it to you. Good Luck and Happy Birthday to GRANDMOTHER. Family is EVERTHING in my book.

I haven't got mine yet, but if it shows up today, I'll fast track it to you first thing tomorrow.

ps. I like Les' articles, but as a point for critique, I'd like to see more quotations by the makers he covers.

Thanks Karl.... But I found that site yesterday and their current issue, is an issue behind the one I want.

There's another site that has the right issue, but they have a 10 week lead time.

Lorien, thanks bud, I really appreciate that! Would it get across the border that fast?

Indonesia might be a bit far... ;) :D Thank you though!

I tried calling KI but didn't get through to anyone. I can always try again tomorrow.

Thanks guys :)

Wish I had it. I would send it to you and pay the postage as my way to say thanks for the things I have learned from your threads. Thanks for that.

Chris

Thanks again guys :)

I should have specifically said that I'd be glad to pay for overnight mail, and more than the cover price... (within reason I should add, LOL).

It's not like I expected someone to overnight me something for free!!!

THANKS!!! :)

Hi Nick,

Send me your address and I'll have a copy in the mail FedEx with my compliments. (Be sure it is a street address) Small price to pay for the chance to bring a smile to a Grandma's face.

To have such an amazingly generous offer--- from of all people--- Bruce Voyles, the EDITOR of Knives Illustrated... who also just happens to be in the Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall of Fame, as well as the American Bladesmiths Society Hall of Fame...

THANK YOU SO MUCH BRUCE!!!!

I'm going to paste my email to Bruce here, just because I want to shed some light on just what a big deal this is to me.

Thank you is not enough here, I will have to come up with a better way to thank you.

This means SOOOO much to me!!!

I grew up 3 house away from "Gramma Sanny" and have always had an extremely strong bond/relationship with her. She has ALWAYS been unwavering in her support. She tells everyone she sees about her knife maker grandson.

We almost lost her 3 years ago when she fell (walking from my parents' home back to her own) and broke her neck. The C1 and C2 vertebra, to be specific--- (the C2 is often referred to as the "hangmen's fracture").

The surgeons were not hopeful. They told us the same injury most often results in death, even in patients that are in their 20's.

But Gramma Sanny isn't just the one of the most kind, generous, and loving women I've ever known, she is also amazingly strong and stubborn (the good kind ). She likes to tell the story of her ambulance ride (hospital procedure) from the hospital she had surgery in to the one where she had physical therapy--- and she got in a big discussion with the EMT in the ambulance about how her grandson makes knives.

Here we are 3 years later, she has a lot of stainless and titanium inside of her body that she didn't before, she can't lift her head up like she used to... but she is still with us, still sharp as a tack, and more loving than ever.

I would NOT be at the point in knife making that I am (probably not at all) if it weren't for her.

So being able to give her this issue of Knives Illustrated, with a write up on her "favorite grandson" is 1,000 times more relevant and important than most folks could ever know.

Thank you so, SOOOOOO MUCH Bruce... I am just in total awe of this display of generosity. :)

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!! :)

You don't have to look very far into Bruce's history in the world of knives to feel confident in saying that I wouldn't even have the opportunity to be where I'm at as a knife maker... if it weren't for his contributions to help make the world of custom knives what it is today.

THANK YOU BRUCE!!!!! :) :) :)

Good news; good move Bruce; good letter Nick; good/great Grandma...and HAPPY BIRTHDAY...we love your grandson!!!
