I'm looking for 1" x 3/16" 5160 for a large batch of orders. Anyone have a source for this odd size?
Thanks,
J.

Try locating a local auto springworks as they can order it out for you J. At least the local shop does for me when I have special needs.

J, I doubt very much if you'll find it but this is where I get my steel when I'm not hitting the junk yards. http://www.pmtsco.com/ They have a 1 800 number. If nothing else they maybe able to point you in the right direction. Are these for torsion springs? Good luck!

Thaks guys, I don't have anything local around me but, I'll give the tips a try.

Actually Ray, these are for a large batch order for a survival school. They've got a spcific style in mind and it would save me from forging down a crud load of 1 1/4" stock and grinding. Basically, trying to save myself some work. If not 1", maybe I can find 2" and cut it in half.
Thanks again

I've got all the 1" square you will ever need.
If you had a decent band saw you could get about 4 slices out of it.
It's really nice clean stuff.

Man, I might have to get a better bandsaw. 1" square 5160...you must be in tomahawk heaven.
;)

I usually forge it down with a 500 pound Chambersburg to my hand-hammer thickness!
I never have, but I'll bet you could cut up pieces to fit in a oven, give it a spherodizing anneal, and it would cut rather well.
I'd be happy to send you piece to play with.

I certainly couldn't argue with that. Let me know what I'd owe you for a 9" piece. Thanks again.

Ask for Keith he knows what the different steels are. If you talk to anyone else first make sure they know what steels they carry. Most are shop help.

I don't know if they carry anything thinner than .262" but at least they are in the same state!
