Odd staining on Yojimbo 2 blade

Ill post pics later today but I am convinced there is something up with Spydercos S30V when its uncoated. All I did with my recently new Yojimbo 2 was cut open a USPS Flat Rate box and the blade edge immediately started staining up I cannot get it off with anything Ive got. So I have already sent an inquiry to where I got it from at KW. Hoping they let me exchange it for their S90V limited Yojimbo 2. I wouldnt want to exchange it for another S30V model that is just going to stain the rust up like this. Anyone else have the same issue? These stains will turn to rust within a week I know it....

I have had no problems with any staining of S30V, Spyderco or Buck. Most people do not coat S30V blades.

Are you sure it's stains and not just residual glue? This can be very hard to get off some knives. Try nail polish remover (acetone), rubbing alcohol or any high proof liquor. If it is rust, Flitz should take it off.

Since you used the knife, I don't see how you can return it, unless you can convince them it is a manufacturer's defect, which it probably ain't.

Are you implying that Spyderco uses different S30V than other makers? I think that they do not.

I have multiple knives in S30V and I have put one of them through some tough stuff with no staining whatsoever. I used a Para2 for food prep regularly and I have probably jogged over 500 miles with a Para2 IWB of a pair of gym shorts and never had any issues with it and I rarely clean it except for wipe it off with a wet paper towel. Can S30V rust? Absolutely. Should it be some sort of instantaneous reaction? Not likely.

I would be interested in a seeing a photo, I think you would have to work at getting s30v to rust.

I have had S30V rust (Kershaw Camber), but I did let it go through the dishwasher...I know that's a no no for stainless steels usually but I hated the knife already before so I don't care. It stained severely under the pivot and along the edge towards the point, I was able to remove the staining with Barkeepers Friend.

I'm a bit skeptical of the OP's intentions here, talking about it magically rusting so fast and then wanting to exchange for an upgraded (and limited run) model. I feel like he used it for a lot more than just opening a package... it all seems a bit shady to me.

Yeah pics are needed.

I work in shipping and receiving, when cutting cardboard the glue binding the cardboard together transfers to the knife. You should have seen my Delica the other day. Try getting a paper towel wet with rubbing alcohol and see if that takes it off. I have never had an S30V knife from any maker rust on me.

Title of the thread does indeed describe... what sounds Odd.

Is it stained, or "rust up", as you mention both?

I felt that something was off when i read it too, especially the part about requesting the S90V version. The S30V on my PM2 has yet to rust, if anything i would have to agree with the two answers of either something sticking to the blade, or OPs sweat caused some staining.

I have a friend who can rust anything short of H1 with his sweat. He does eat a lot of spicy food.

I kayak fish in the ocean every day with a s30v swick. I spend hours and hours with the knife soaking in saltwater and as long as I rinse it as soon as I come in it doesn't develop surface rust or even staining. Your S30v yojimbo is not staining from opening a cardboard box.

That's funny right there. It's not their S30V, it's your sweat.

It's the pH of the body, if it is more acidic, there is a chance it will rust. One of the guys on the forum would leave finger prints on Ti that would eventually rust.

not to mention that, if anything, S90V will stain much easier than S30V.

okay guys fine. All I have to work with is a webcam so go easy on me. To note I have already contacted Spyderco and am sending the knife back to them for "repair". I just cannot be without my Yo 2 in my back pocket so I went and ordered the S90V KW special that I will have on Monday. Then I will send in the S30V to Spyderco. In this pic note the staining around the center of the edge. It will not come off. Tried Benchmade Blue cleanser, Tuff Cloth and Ballistol.

Not sure what you've got there. Hard to tell from that pic, but Spyderco will get you sorted out.

just have a webcam to work with cannot get great detail. center of edge looks like fingerprint smudges is actually staining from what I dont know I just know it will soon turn to rust and yes Spyderco is taking care of me was just wondering if anyone else was having a similar issue with their Yo 2
