Odd tang stamp or have I not been paying close enough attention?

What are the chances. I saw 2 buck 119's today with the tang stamp on the left side, not the right. I have never seen this. Is it odd or have I not been paying attention? I'm sure I've looked at literally thousands of 119's and have never seen the stamp on the left and today I saw two.

One was a 2004 but the other was a real doozie. Get this. A 2000 tang stamp (backwards square C) on the left side. The right side of the knife had the 100 year anniversary blade etch!!!! A 2002 blade etch on a 2000 blade stamped on the left side. Every anniversary knife I ever looked at had the 2002 "ANVIL" stamp on the right.

How rare is this? Anyone else ever seen a left side tang stamp on a 119, or on any other 100 series fixed blade?

Hi Desoto,

is this one of the 119's you are talking about? Sorry, this is a cut out not the etch and is stamped on the right side not the left....don't know if I have seen one stamped on the left side.

After a quick look in the case I found this one. It's the Master series 119 (it's stamped on both sides).

Both knives had the standard 3-line stamp with the date code on the second line after the 119. The "2000" dated blade had the 2002 anniversary etch, not the cutout.

Is that palmwood on your knife?.....nice:thumbup:

Yes it is Palmwood, it looks much better in hand!

Any chance the backward C had a dot in the center? If so that's a 2011 stamp. Also remember the anvil stamp has also been used for the custom LE/SO knives for many years. Those of us who collect those knives don't like it as they don't always have any year marks stamped on the knife, so you have to do your research to know what you have!

No, it was clearly the 2000 backwards square C.
I'm near sighted so the need for reading glasses hasn't quite caught me yet:D

Maybe a reversed photo image?

The stamp would be seen as backwards if readable.
