Cutting edge is 5.5 inches, over all handle is about 16" long. No eye-ridges and butt of handle is stamped "BFx", I can't make out the last character. True-Temper is stamped on side of handle. I am guessing NYCRR is New York Central Rail-Road. On scale the thing weight 4.5 pounds.

The short handle makes the head seem very heavy because you want to hold it with one hand. I have a mid-60s True-Temper catalog and it does not show an axe like this, that has this size head or handle, so maybe it is earlier than the 60s. The NYCRR merged with another railroad in the mid-60s so ceased to exist.

Thanks Steve! That is a ridiculously large hatchet, weighing as much or more than most axes.
