Defying the usual norms, a little or a lot, I thought it would be interesting to have a landing place for Cutlery that doesn't quite fall into the commonly seen forms or patterns!
Pallet knives 1.jpg
Binney & Smith was an art supplies company, and invented Crayola crayons!! Ulster Knife Co. made this folding pallet knife for them, and put a firm spring in it to render it useful!!
With it, below it, is an elegant, sculptural Ivory (pre-ban) pallet knife with no markings, but which I suspect is Sheffield-made!!

Please post your interesting pieces here!!

Here are a couple of "gent's" knives, no larger than pencils!!!Slim Gents 1.jpg
Made by once pre-eminent Sheffield Cutlers, Joseph Rodgers, and George Wostenholm respectively, they have interesting and useful details!!
The Joseph Rodgers at top has a nicely stamped blade and is least obtrusive in the pocket, but will surely trim a quill!!Slim Gents 2.jpg
The I*XL below also has a stamped main, and a useful pricker for Cigar or Pipe!!!

All tangs stamped usually indicates age!!

Bernie Levine cites this next knife as "Hand manufactured"!!
It is marked W.H.Wragg who started in 1871 making "contract multiblades"!!
An early Custom maker??? Who fully understands the Little Mesters cutlery industry???
Nicely finished in dark Horn, it is a Sleeveboard Pen, with a single spring and catchbit!!
And it has under-handle Tweezers and Cigar pricker!! A class 'A', useful Penknife!!W H Wragg 1.jpg

Here is an unmarked Pruning "hook"; seems handforged!!
Takes a great edge, and has a turned Handle, and ferrule!!Forged Fixed Prune 1.jpg
A lot of handling shows on the knife - it's worked hard!!! I sharpened it with emery paper wrapped over a tube!!

Very nice examples as usual. What would a pallet knife be used for? Mixing paints on a pallet? Why would a stout spring be useful for that style?

I showed this knife to Bernie Levine, after I got it from Roland (R.I.P.)!! Bernie's opinion is, it is a "counterfeit fantasy"!!! It uses the "Dog's Head" imagery which doesn't belong to the Tidioute blade!!! 😯 Interesting sculptured pattern though!! Whoever did it was a talented cutler!! Roland tried to buy it back from me, but I wasn't ready!!!
It seems to be one of a kind!!Fantasy Fake 1.jpgFantasy Fake 2.jpg

Much like a brush, the pallet knife manipulates the paint; it's used to apply and texture, usually thick, oil paint!! I've seen many works that only used a pallet knife!! No brush work at all!

I've seen them used & some artwork made by them. That kind of work is impressive. But I've gotta say I've never seen a folding version like that! Thanks for sharing those!

You are welcome!! The blades are springy and flexible also!!!

I'm not sure these quite fit the definition of oddball as I suppose it's mainly the handles that make them different. To that end, I think I recall reading here once about a knife handle made from a stabilized coprolite.

An Italian 'Roman' pattern, complete with ratchet and carved dog's head. Not quite as amazing as yours, waynorth waynorth

A checkerboard handle; the checkers are corian with ebony at the ends and core.

These two are quite literally lacquered sticks, smoothed a little, but basically raw.
