Can anyone find/post a photo? I remember seeing a short review about this knife in Soldier of Fortune Magazine back in the early 80's, I think. Then I saw it mentioned in the Spyderco Story by Delavigne, page 124, and it was like De Ja Vu, all over again. It was quite impressive as I recall but I wonder how practical. Picture a plainedge Spyderhawk blade with a hocky puck for a handle, the knife being held between the fore finger and middle finger (puck in palm) and the blade sticking out like a real claw would.

I never heard of Odin's Claw myself and a quick search on Ixquick didn't help. It's not an outrageous design, though. Bud Nealy has a similar concept with a more traditional blade out now. The Cold Steel Desperado has an egg-shaped kraton handle (with a serrated "Nogales clip point" blade). I think Benchmade was playing with a more traditional push dagger "T" handle and a claw blade. Now there's the CRKT Bear Claw with a bulbous handle, finger hole and claw blade, like a fat Emerson La Griffe (which I'm wearing now:)).

I believe that the Odin's Claw mentioned in the Spyderco Story is acutally a one of a kind custom made by Wayne Goddard. I'm not sure about the one you are talking about, but as mentioned in the book, the Spyderco Goddard's handle mimics that of the custom Odin's Claw.

Anyone got a picture? I'd love to see this beast... sounds like it would be right up my alley. (I know, not available, but if I can see a pic, it can inspire me in my own knife designs and... oh never mind, just gimmie a picture!)

Aniketos, yes, you can type with a claw in your hand. That's one of the advantages of a small push dagger or kerambit, you don't lose your ability to grip or manipulate other items when you're holding one.

In the Jan/80 S.O.F. they mention Viele's Devil's Claw in a article on hideout knives. I believe this is the knife you mean? It was a black micarta disk with a slight Hawkbill blade.

The Goddard Odin's Claw is, like Matt mentioned, a older version of what would become the Goddard/Spyder(the custom version had a more spear/daggerish profile).

There's a fella named Micky Yurco who makes knives much like the Devil's Claw. You can find him here a lot: www.selfdefenseforums.com . People have been very impressed with his work:).

HTH:D:).

Yes, bob bowie , I think you're onto it. After 23 years, I guess my memory is a little off with the name but I can still see that picture in my mind. The large silver rivets set into the black micarta and all. Viele design eh? Very interesting. I'll have to look into this further. Thanks for the link.
