I have short finger nails, really short finger nails. So when it comes to opening any blade/tool/soda can tab/ect, I always hope it doesn't require a finger nail (and therefore, me using a blade as a finger nail).

So, obviously, instead of trying to grow my finger nails, I like to use tools that do not require them :D Like the Skeletool (and not SAK, they are my bane).

However, I have been looking to purchase a wider variety of tools, but I feel limited in what I can use effectively.

Thus I come to you, fellow BF user. What multi-tools are there that do not require finger nails? Any of the larger leatherman models? Other brands?

Thanks for input ;)

The LM core should be suitable as you can open all of the tools pretty much without nails.

The Leatherman Core is a good suggestion. I think that the SOG PowerLock or PowerAssist are also good choices. Because the tools clump, you can pull them all out together without using your finger nails. That's true of most of the SOG multi-tools (a couple exceptions include the ToolClip and Micro ToolClip). If you are looking to add variety to your collection, you might look for the discontinued Kershaw A100 (they sometimes turn up in new or used condition on eBay). Or if you want something even less conventional, checkout the Spyderco SpydeRench, Byrd ByrdRench, Buck X-tract, and the CRKT Zilla-Tool and Guppie.

I keep my nails short. The only tool that I have had problems with is the Vic Swisstool. I am fine with a Vic Spirit though.

With me, i use the detachable clip, or lanyard ring on my leatherman charge tti to access all the inner tools.

Bitten nails and a really tight multi tool dont really go together, but it works a lot better than a SAK for me.

Cheers.

Thanks for the input :)

How is LM Surge in regards to ease of tool access?

Over 3 decades ago I realised that it was hard to pick up coins from a flat counter (school canteen) with really short nails. Since then I have trimmed 3 nails short and left the thumb & forefinger nails slightly longer - thus opening the tools on a LM or SAK is no problem and picking up small flat things like coins or washers is also easy.

A little length on a couple of fingernails is a useful tool - why unequip yourself and lose useful tools from your fingers?

That's a good question and goes to mind set. A good tool is an asset, but the right attitude expands your potential a whole bunch. As a bonus, it costs nothing (or somewhat less than a SAK, I forget which :D .)

You could get a GEC blade opener.

It's the key like thing on the right.
