Optimism, in yesterday's case, was telling the wife and kid on a saturday “sorry, I have to go now” and braving the idiots to drive through this to get to the Post Office...

Hoping a specific knife was there, because I had just had a brainstorm for a cool article on self reliance and knife use

The reality is that while the mail carriers will put on chains to brave slick main roads, and even slicker icy back roads...

and can even get mail to visiting extra terrestrials...

Alas it is simply not within their power to make the hour and a half road trip from Atlanta to here in three days... :(

So, off to take the little one out for hot chocolate now to make up for yesterday :)

.

What an excellent photo thread Mist. I am sorry to hear that the knife was not there though. The hope and anticipation of receiving the new knife coupled with the weather scenario must have been over the top. The extra terrestrial line was a good one! :)

Kudos for trying despite some elements that looked like they were conspiring against you (never mind the aliens!).

If it's any consolation I got an email from Andy to say my Kephart had been returned to him. USPS are claiming the address is wrong. We've both checked and there's no problem with it. I'm in the UK and it got as far as their international departure point before bouncing back!! Providing all goes well and Andy can re-send it I've still got a wait of up to 3 weeks and some tasty customs charges to boot!

Thanks to Andy for persevering, now the wait (hopefully)

Great shots! You got a lot more snow on your side of the mountain. Tough waiting for something special, kinda like getting up early on Christmas morning and being told you had to wait one more day. Maybe they cut back on the feed for the mules on the Atlanta/Tn run.

Thanks Mark. Eh, no worries, it'll get here soon enough. I was hoping people would understand I meant the post to be humorous and not as a rant :) Actually I was just as much looking for a check coming from the left coast.Considering that didn't make it in a week I suppose three days from Atlanta was over-expectation anyway :) . Lol, that saucer house is about 40 years old now. The contractor that built it was a friend of the family, I got to play in it as they were building it back when I was in the first grade.

Hey, I had to try. The idea inspired was a pretty good one in my opinion, it will remain to be seen if others think so :) Man, that really bites. I know how shipping from here to the UK can go. One year I check the tracking on a package I sent to a friend in the UK, and it sat in NYC for over two weeks before even heading over seas. Plus that darn VAT can be rough too. From what I have seen over the years Andy has been really good about taking care of his customers and making sure they get what they paid for.

Thanks man. Yeah, but it didn't stick around as long as I would have liked. A couple more inches and a couple more days on the ground would have been nice. I could have done to projects and photos for a few different articles. I am still hoping for something along those lines later in the year. Who knows man? Sometimes I think things will take a week to get here and they make it in three days, then sometimes I order things from two hours away and it takes a week. It's just the way of things.

That looks like winter. I have some experience with winter as well as being disappointed at the Post Office. I can usually be anticipating a new knife for a month or more.

Oh, the wait doesn't usually bother me...I'm always working on one thing or another and stay busy anyway. The snow just gave me an idea that involved the use of a small knife and I thought I'd go see if it was there. I'd just as soon use a new small Fiddleback as any small knife I already have...and I have several :)
