Which would you prefer and why? It may affect my choice.

Byrd - Cara Cara (G-10)
S.O.G. - Fusion Salute
Cold Steel - American Lawman

Obviously, they are all very similar, hence why I can't decide.

Opinions?

My vote goes for the Byrd. Reasons: I love the opening hole more than thumbstuds. I have experience with the steel it uses from my Tenacious, and it performs admirably, if not a "super steel", and also the g10 handles.

My second pick would be the Cold Steel, it has great AUS8 steel, the blade has a ton of belly, and the handle LOOKS comfortable(but I've never held one). That said, it seems to be double the price of the Byrd.

SOG... meh. Never liked how they all have a cheap "tacticool" look to them. That said, has the same steel as the Byrd, and g10 handles. If you can find it for the same price and like the aesthetics or style over the Byrd, probably can't go wrong.

If you think they look similar, go for the Byrd. It’s the cheapest and offers a similar performance to the other knives. It’s a good knife for the price.

The Cold Steel is expensive for what it is and I don’t like the ergonomics of the handle. Not very versatile. Just try a reverse grip ... I like the Cold Steel Voyager line, but those knives seem to be discontinued.

I never held the S.O.G. in my hand, but it looks weird to me… And slightly uncomfortable.

Why not try a Spyderco Endura? That would be a real upgrade. Better fit and finish, better steel and great ergonomics. Or, for a little less money the Tenacious? If you don’t want to spend more, get the Byrd.

American Lawman all the way, dude.
Get the new version with the 100% G-10 handle, and don't look back.

Cold Steel does wonders with AUS-8A steel, and the knife will take anything you can throw at it while still being pocketable and a good size for EDC. And you'll NEVER have to think twice about the lock failing. It's a pretty confidence inspiring blade.

Agreed all the way.

I don't actually own any of these three, but I would have to vote for the Cara Cara g-10 handle.
Simply because it will probably be my next inexpensive knife purchase. It looks decent, and has a decent blade length.

The Lawman would also be a good choice. I always read good reviews.

I'm not that impressed by the Fusion line of SOG, but I have not really read
anything good or bad about the Salute.

Agreed. The American Lawman is the way to go, as it is tough and has an extremely secure lock.

I tell you what, I own about 200-300 knives from all manufacturers and the new CS tri-ad locks are simply amazing. I bought 2 mini lawmen for about $80 and I carry both while on duty EVERY DAY. That really means something if you knew me. That little thing has kicked $300 knives out of my pocket. SOLID design in every way. Try one

The triad lock on the lawman is just unreal, it's the best that I've ever had, period. The AUS 8A is a good steel as well, my only complaint is the texturing on the handle chews up pockets in a day or two. I use it when wearing Carharrt work dungarees, and slide it down a ruler pocket.
