Well, last night the missus saw the photo of the four Fiddlebacks I posted recently with: the Woodsman, Recluse, Bushboot, and her Hiking Buddy. Then saw what Joe Duder and Philp L said about her Hiking Buddy. Then she asked to see them all for herself. So, I took the Recluse out of the sheath on my belt, pulled the Woodsman from the kitchen drawer I have been storing it in since I have been using it in the kitchen so much lately, told her to get her Hiking Buddy out of the cabinet I put it in after the photo, and then pulled a box out of the cabinet I had the Bushboot in. She asked why the Bushboot was in the box. I said "well, I am done with the photo shoot I was using it in". She says, "so you aren't carrying it anymore?" I said, "not now since we are out here in the country, I have been carrying the Recluse daily. I bought that one mainly for urban carry when we still lived in the city. Here the city is such a drive away, and some are pretty bad, and these days if I head to the city I will be carrying something less gentlemanly that I won't hesitate in abusing or tossing if needs be." So, she asks, "how does it do at slicing cheese, is it better at it than my Hiking Buddy (which has a scandi grind)?" I said "oh hell yeah, it's convexed 1/8, nice and slicey!" So, she gets out the block of sharp cheddar and some crackers, and she makes us a snack. She says, "wow, it slices really well. So, do you not like it anymore?" I said, "of course I like it, it's just not the one I want to carry now that I have the Recluse. I may see if I can trade it for an F2 or a Hiking Buddy with a convex edge later. I really can't justify buying another one right now since technically I have all of my bases covered". So...she handles it a while, looking at it, checks it in various holds, and then says "are you just going to keep it in that box for now?" Thinking she was just going to put it back in the box I said "yes, for now." She smiled and said "well now you can justify the other one you want, because I'm keeping this one to use and putting my Hiking Buddy up for a while.

So, on the down side, I just lost my Bushboot. On the upside, as soon as I recover some financially, I have her blessing to get the other Fiddleback I want. Now...to decide which one :)

I'd look at this as a win/win. Your wife gets another Fiddleback to enjoy and you get access to a future Fiddleback that will get use rather than sitting in a box.

Seconds on the Hiking Buddy ;) You know I've had my eye on that scandi...

Oh, looking at it from all angles I definitely see it as a win all around. I like knowing the blade she carries is a Fiddleback, I trust them and love them aesthetically as well. I like how her Bushboot, that still sounds odd in my head lol, visually matches my Recluse, even though one is black wood and the other black micarta. I also know if I need it for a photo it will be around for it. But to not only have her ok with me buying another Fiddleback but telling me to do so is freakin' priceless! Definitely a win/win!

Congrats Mist!! hahaha....glad to see that it worked out for everyone!!

Yeah, she and the little one were making cookies last night and she had it out cutting open the brown sugar and chocolate morsels and then left it laying on the counter. I picked it up and said "ah cool, I get my Bushboot back" and smiled. The look she shot me was priceless :)

Great stuff mist, it was like reading an anecdote of some sort...an ode to fiddleback if you will.

Thanks :) Yeah, I'm just glad my partner Andrew has my Camp Knife and his brother Philip has the Kephart taking them to the Becker Gathering this year since I can't go. I know I'll get those back when I want them, but with her, once she gets her hands on something that's just it. But, since she seems to want to keep me, I probably shouldn't complain...much :D
